πŸ“… June 1 marks several important observances.

πŸŒ€ Hurricane Season officially begins today. For those of us in disaster response, preparedness is not something that starts when a storm appears on the radar. Now is the time to review emergency plans, restock supplies, and make sure you’re ready before you need to be.

πŸ’™ May 15 through June 15 is Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month. An estimated 1 in 100 children experience Tourette syndrome or other tic disorders. Increased awareness helps build understanding, acceptance, and support for those living with these conditions.

πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ June is Pride Month. It’s a time to recognize, celebrate, and support LGBTQ+ members of our communities, including the volunteers, supporters, and neighbors who help make our communities stronger every day.

Different observances. Different communities. One common thread: people matter.

Stay prepared. Stay informed. Take care of one another. πŸ₯Ύ

Tropical systems can trigger more than flooding and damaging winds β€” they can also cause fast-moving debris flows and landslides. Heavy rainfall can rapidly send mud, rocks, trees, and debris downhill with little warning, especially in steep terrain or recently burned areas.

⚠️ If you live near hillsides or mountains:
β€’ Stay alert during prolonged heavy rain
β€’ Have an evacuation plan ready
β€’ Leave early if local officials issue warnings
β€’ Never underestimate fast-moving mud and debris flows

These events can happen in minutes and quickly become life-threatening.
