There’s something pretty special happening out at Atchison County Lake right now. After the recent rains filled everything back up and brought new life to the shoreline, we were lucky enough to catch a visit from migrating American White Pelicans.

Watching these massive, graceful birds glide across the water and gather in groups is something you don’t see every day around here. It’s a good reminder of how important this lake is—not just for our community, but for wildlife passing through on incredible journeys.

If you’ve been thinking about getting out for some fresh air, now’s a perfect time. You never know what you might see. 🌧️🦢

In conjunction with the County Wide Clean- Up Day, Friends of the Atchison County Lake will meet at the Saxton (east) Shelter House at 9:00 AM. Projects rang from trash pick-up, working on walking trails, collecting debris, shelter house/bathroom improvements, and more!

We’re one step closer to finishing up the ACL trails with a donation of used power poles from Evergy. So many, in fact, that we’ll be sharing with our friends at Mission Trails in Horton. Thank you, Evergy!

What a fantastic start on Atchison County Lake trails this weekend! Thank you to all the volunteers that came out to help. And thank you to the Kreider Family for lunch!
We got a great jump on TWO trails that will be ready to go later this Spring. Another workday coming soon!

WHO will be joining us to help build trails with the “Trail in A Box” program this Saturday at the lake? We’ve had a generous donor step forward to provide box lunches, but we need to know how many by this Thursday.

Please respond with a thumbs up or hand wave & how many you’re bringing to help us get an accurate count.

The Barred Owl will be there too, but probably not much help! 😂
