Third grade students put their Approaches to Learning into action during a fun team challenge! Their task was to write the word “Park” without anyone touching the pen. It took teamwork, communication, and problem-solving to be successful. Mrs. Pennington loved listening to the conversations as they encouraged one another, shared ideas, and worked together to accomplish the task!

On Friday, second grade began their new Unit of Inquiry by exploring inventions from the past. Students observed different inventions and used a See, Think, Wonder routine to share their observations, develop ideas, and ask questions. This sparked curiosity and encouraged students to think about how inventions have changed over time and how they impact the way we live today.

In math today, Ms. Emerson’s students grouped multiples of three. This helped them inquire into a new world of multiplication. Students first connected that the groups reminded them of repeated addition! They used the groups to find out how many cubes they had by writing a repeated addition problem. The students then went back to set it up as a multiplication problem. They also connected to their Unit Of Inquiry, identifying how organisms solve problems different ways! Way to be IB learners! 🎉

5th grade students investigated the story of their names, created a collaborative acrostic poem about the meaning of culture, and participated in a Reader’s Theater student led reading of “Coyote” and “The Monster” after hearing it told by a Nez Perce Native American. Students are learning about the importance of “gifts” that are Handed Down, their first Arts and Letters Module. Way to be inquirers, fifth grade!

Today during ELA, Mrs. Boles’ class explored how weather and seasonal changes impact both people and nature. Students investigated the question, What causes leaves to change? as they learned about chlorophyll and discovered why it is essential for plants. They observed real leaves and used the chlorophyll inside them to create artwork, experiencing science through hands-on exploration. To conclude, students recorded their thinking by writing a Notice and Wonder, reflecting on what they observed and the questions their investigation inspired. Way to be inquirers!
