The fire has been located by the US on the Stateline Ridge between River Road and Paint Creek. They have two type one helicopters ordered which people are already seeing one of them working along with Cherokee Hotshots and another contract crew to start work. They are trying to find the best access

Just FYI, USFS from the Cherokee NF and Pisgah along with the NCFS are investigating a smoke column in the area off River rd high on the mountain. It appears to be possibly on the TN side in the bell cow mountain area. Weather conditions are expected to get worse over the weekend which could prompt large fire growth. Please stay clear of the area and allow them to investigate and work where needed. I will post things as I find out and try to share them ASAP

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

PLEASE SHARE. There will also be some other locations available.

On February 25, 2026 the RACE CARS cardiac arrest survival program will be attempting to set a new world record for the number of people trained in CPR in one day in the state of North Carolina. In cooperation with the RACE CARS program we are going to attempt to train 500 people in Madison County on that day. I know that’s a big goal for a small county but if we fail to reach that number, worst case we have trained more members of the community in CPR. Even if we only reached 20 people, it's all about providing information and training for anyone willing to put “hands on” and help when someone is experiencing a cardiac arrest emergency. We will have a short video that will be used to train the participants in the skills of hands only CPR. The information above is from the lead in Madison County for the RACE CARS program.

Hot Springs VFD will have members at our department from 8am until 5pm on this day for any community members that would like compressions only training. This is NOT a certification class. Please understand that you could save a life by knowing this basic skill and you are covered by Good Samaritan laws. This is a FREE training session

Address for the station is 93 Forest Service Drive in Hot Springs.
