Why would you work in a bathhouse? It’s hot. It’s humid. It’s really hard work! But for African Americans in Hot Springs, the bathhouses opened doors for themselves and their community. Their accomplishments changed Hot Springs National Park, the region, and the nation. You are invited to learn about some of these amazing and interconnected stories on the eve of America’s 250th birthday!

This program is part of the collaborative series between Garland County Library and Hot Springs National Park and can be attended in person or watched via livestream on the Library’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/GarlandCoLibrary or on the Garland County Library page.

On June 22, 2026, construction officially began on the new North Branch of the Garland County Library System! Harrison Construction secured the bid and is expected to complete the roughly 10,000-square-foot facility within 12 months.

Located on Highway 7 North beside the McAuley Center (outside the gates of Hot Springs Village) this branch serves as part of the Garland County Library’s "GCL Forward" initiative, which aims to expand the system to three branches within the next five years. The North Branch will feature dedicated spaces for children and teens, as well as study and meeting rooms.

We are so excited to share this with all of you and will share updates as we have them!

Know Your Rights: Landlord-Tenant Law begins today at 2 PM
Park Chats: Laboring in a Land of Leisure starts at 12 PM on Wednesday in-person and live streamed (and available afterwards on our YouTube channel)

🖍️🦖 Since 2020, our friend Lucas Antoniak () has not only shared his wonderful coloring pages with us, but also created special designs for events like Take Your Child to the Library Day!

This year, he designed a page inspired by the Summer Reading Program theme "Unearth a Story." We’ve been sharing those (along with his other dino pages) with our community and look how awesome these pictures are turning out!!!

The Garland County Library accepts donations all year round for our local non-profits!

Recently we distributed clothing, toys, toiletries, and shelf stable foods to our friends at Jackson House Crisis Intervention, Inc., Samaritan Ministries Men's Rescue Mission, City of Hot Springs Community Resource Center , and Tri-Lakes CASA!

🤔 What can you donate?
• Shelf stable food items (non-refrigerated, closed container)
• Clean clothing of all sizes and seasons
• Toys
• Clean blankets and bedding
• Toiletries and non-opened hygiene products
• Cleaning products (wipes, laundry detergent)
• Pet food (non-opened)
• Water bottles, backpacks, lunch boxes

Thank you to everyone so far who has donated in 2026! We're proud to have such a wonderful community here in Garland County.
