Thanks to everyone who came out and partied with us at our 2026 Summer Reading Kickoff on Saturday!

Between all the fun we only grabbed a few photos but we wanted to give an extra shoutout to our friends from Mid-America Science Museum, the Garland County Master Gardeners (who help facilitate our Sprout Squad program for kids), and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library of the Ouachitas who do an amazing job at helping start literacy young!

Starting tomorrow, June 1st, all through June your Garland County Library card will get you free entry to Garvan Woodland Gardens to experience Book Trail in Partnership with the Garland County Library ! This years featured book is “What the Dinosaurs Did Last Night: A Very Messy Adventure”, by Refe & Susan Tuma. [For more info, visit the event link above.] 🦖

Our Summer Reading Program Kickoff begins today at 10 AM, but we wouldn't have nearly as much fun without our sponsors:

Friends of the Garland County Library - all through the year they help us with program supplies and prizes for so many programs. We are so grateful to the volunteers who keep the Back Corner Bookshop as wonderful as it is!

Walmart Hot Springs Village and Walmart Neighborhood Market Hot Springs - Malvern Ave - provided Spark Good Local Grants for this years SRP which helps with getting awesome prizes for all of our participating readers this summer!

Hot Springs Youth Advisory Council - Thanks to the generosity of YAC, we will be able to purchase more prize books for this year's Summer Reading Program! -- The YAC is an offshoot of the Hot Springs Area Community Foundation, which is a division of the Arkansas Community Foundation! HUGE thanks to all three organizations for their efforts in making Hot Springs and the surrounding communities a great place to live!

Saturday's Know It to Grow It is all about Scented Geraniums with our friends from Garland County Master Gardeners!

This event is a hybrid program meaning that we will offer it at the library and we will livestream it online as well! Can't make it at that time? Don't worry, we got you: you can visit our YouTube channel at any time after the program concludes and catch up 💐

Ramona Slick, Master Gardener, member Herb Society of America & International Herb Association is presenting on Pelargoniums. AKA Scented Geraniums: Learn what they are, origin, history, uses, care of, sources & propagation demo.

Watson is here to tell you that Paws to Read returns to GCL on Tuesday, June 2nd!

Paws to Read is a program where kids ages 6-12 are invited to read to a therapy dog at the library for 15 minutes.

This program will be hosted bi-weekly on Tuesdays in June and July. Dates and times as listed:
• Tuesday, June 2nd -- 4:30 to 5:30 PM
• Tuesday, June 16th -- 4:30 to 5:30 PM
• Tuesday, June 30th -- 4:30 to 5:30 PM
• Tuesday, July 14th -- 4:30 to 5:30 PM
• Tuesday, July 28th -- 4:30 to 5:30 PM
