Hot Springs National Park Rotary member Scott Lauck presented Thomas Smith with his blue badge and welcomed him to our club at our recent meeting. This is not the first blue badge for Thomas. Thomas is a past member of Oaklawn Rotary and served as president of the club. We are honored to have him with us at Hot Springs National Park Rotary and look forward to working with him.

It is an honor to be a Rotarian and to wear the blue badge of HSNP Rotary Club. This badge is a mark of distinction, indicating that the member has met the club’s requirements and is actively participating and is a testament to the member’s commitment to Rotary values. HSNP Rotarians In The Community.
Hot Springs National Park Rotary is sharing about our fellow members that are serving the community of Hot Springs. We are often asked what does Rotary do? What is Rotary all about? Our hopes are by sharing newspaper articles, social media posts and various sources that you can broaden your knowledge of our members in the community. Check out this The Sentinel-Record article about a new simulator at National Park College. Our member and past President Forrest Spicher was pictured in the this article. Forrest serves as a Trustee on the National Park College board. Our club member and NPC President Wade Derden is also quoted in the article.National Park College is doing great things and constantly improving their offerings.

Thank you to The Sentinel-Record for covering our Hot Springs National Park Rotary meeting this week. We are so excited to see where Devin's leadership takes us. We are equally excited to have him as a member of our organization at Hot Springs National Park Rotary. Our Rotary theme for this year is Create Lasting Impact. and we are certain the new leader for Visit Hot Springs will do the same.

Are they a business professional? Invite them to Rotary Means Business - Arkansas Central next event on Sept. 3.

The best recruitment tool we have is simply sharing what we love about what we do—so don’t hesitate to bring Rotary into the conversation wherever you go.

Members: A good place to start would be to invite a guest to a weekly meeting. This week our speaker will be the new Visit Hot Springs CEO, Devin Heath.

Here is a shoutout to all the members of Hot Springs National Park Rotary. Thanks to the collective efforts of our members, our club is one of seven clubs in RI District 6170 to be honored with the prestigious Club Excellence award. We actually doubled the number of new members that we set as our goal and met or exceeded our expectations across the board. It took everyone working together and we were focused on being the best we could be.

The Club Excellence awards, formerly the Rotary Citation awards recognize clubs that achieve specific goals throughout the year, such as increasing their membership, engaging members in sustainable service projects, giving to The Rotary Foundation, building awareness of Rotary in your community, and having an up-to-date strategic plan. When clubs achieve these goals, they contribute to Rotary's overall health and culture for generations to come.

Thank you and congratulations to ALL our members on an outstanding Rotary year.

Chris Curry was our most recent speaker at Hot Springs National Park Rotary. Forgive the pun, but he really knocked out of the park! We had a packed house to hear from Chris.

Our fellow Rotarian Michael Gastman, whose son played on this season's UALR baseball team, had the honor of introducing Chris Curry. Chris Curry is a college baseball coach and former catcher. Curry is the head coach of the Little Rock Trojans baseball team. Curry was drafted in the 9th round by the Chicago Cubs in the 1999 Major League Baseball draft. On July 17, 2010, Curry was introduced as the head coach at Meridian Community College. On June 26, 2012, Curry was named the pitching coach at Northwestern State. After two seasons at Northwestern State, Curry was named the head coach of the Little Rock Trojans baseball program. His 2024 Trojans won the Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship, but lost in the OVC Tournament. Curry led his 2025 team to an upset victory in the OVC Tournament championship, and pushed the LSU Tigers into the Baton Rouge Regional before losing. In 2026, his Trojans finished third in the OVC regular season, and went on to win the conference tournament for the second year in a row. The UALR Trojans made history in the 2026 NCAA baseball tournament by reaching the Super Regional for the first time in program history after winning the Hattiesburg Regional as a No. 4 seed.

What is most important to Chris as a coach is that he and his team respect the game of baseball. The game has become a lot about show and self-promotion, and he reminds his players they are part of a team and that they all wear the same uniform. If Little Rock baseball wins, his players will get the notoriety they are seeking. He also emphasizes grades because he wants to make sure that if his players do not get the call to the big league, they have an education to help them with a career.

Please join us in welcoming Devin Heath as our newest member of Hot Springs National Park Rotary. Devin was introduced as a new member at our most recent meeting by our fellow Rotarian Robert Zunick. Devin is the new CEO of Visit Hot Springs. He and his wife Janice look forward to being involved in the community, which includes Rotary. Welcome to our club and welcome to Hot Springs Heath family!
