Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

Nothing builds brotherhood and sisterhood like putting in the work together for the people we serve 💁🏼‍♀️🚒🔥

The last couple trainings we focused on medical—running through multiple scenarios, working through how to properly assess and treat within our scope and protocols, practicing cardiac arrest and CPR on mannequins, and going over how to prepare for ALS arrival 🚑. Then we switched it up and got back to hands-on fireground work.

Training in the dark on the hose line, searching for victims, sounding floors, and using every tool we’ve got. Crawling through tight spaces, figuring out how to ditch the air pack to squeeze through while still staying on air (because apparently we like to struggle 😂), and trusting the person next to you every step of the way.

We do it for each other, and we do it for our community. Every training makes us better… even if we’re out here sweaty, covered in dust, and questioning our life choices halfway through
