*** NEW MATERIAL ALERT***

We are so excited to share that HLPL now has Hooked on Phonics kits available to be checked out! These kits are great for helping children who are starting to learn to read, those who may need a little extra support, or even for getting a bit of a head start on literacy skills.

The kits include numbered lessons and notes to help parents and caregivers work step by step with their child to build their skills, as well as books that accompany the lessons. These phonics kits not only help children learn to read, but they also help adults gain knowledge and skills to better assist growing readers, and are a great way to spend quality time together.

Funding for these kits is provided in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library of Michigan.

As a reminder, HLPL will be closed Saturday, May 23rd, and Monday, May 25th, in observance of Memorial Day.

We had a great time last night at Collins Elementary’s Spring Family Night! Families were able to come in and see some of the great things HLPL has to offer, play and interact with them, and then enjoy dinner together.

Did you know you can borrow a Nintendo Switch from us for free? That's right, you can borrow the Switch, which comes with some games preloaded, as well as up to two additional games, with just your library card. Already have a switch? You can also check out the games on their own.

While we do want everyone to enjoy our materials, children will need someone who is 18 or older and has a library account in good standing to check the switch out for them.

Thank you again to the RCCF Alexa Luck Memorial Fund for the generous grant that made this fantastic addition to our collection possible!

Neighborhood Forrest, the organization that provided the tree saplings for our Cloudy With a Chance of Trees program, graciously sent us replacement saplings after hearing that ours had a rough journey! Feel free to stop in and grab a free sapling to take home and care for!

With over 34,000 physical items in-house, sometimes it can be hard to narrow down your choices. That's when genre labels can help! HLPL puts labels towards the bottoms of book spines so that you can easily see what kind of book they are and grab what you're in the mood for. If you still can't decide, you can always go with a staff favorite, marked with a green "Staff Pick" label at the top of the spine!

We are so excited for our Cloudy with A Chance of Trees program this Saturday, at 1:00pm with 9&10/Fox 32 Chief Meteorologist Michael Stevens! Our saplings, on the other hand. . . well, they had a bit of a rough journey and may need a little TLC from their new homes. Are you up for the challenge?!
