Thank you! We work with some amazing people.
On August 14th, 2025 Denton Township EMS was dispatched to an individual at a local restaurant who was choking. Denton A-1 arrived on scene within two minutes of being dispatched. Paramedic Destyni Traver, EMT Eric Tiepel, and EMT Kaylie Moore immediately arrived to the patient’s side and noticed the patient was unable to speak, was blue, and had an obstructed airway. EMT Tiepel began the Heimlich Maneuver and three large pieces of meat exited the patient’s airway. The patient began breathing again, their color returning to normal, and was able to speak. The patient was then transported to a local hospital and was discharged the same day with no deficits.
On November 5th, 2025 Denton Township awarded the crew with a Life Saving Award for amazing teamwork that saved the patient’s life. Chief Richard Dupon presented the award saying, “there is no doubt without their quick thinking that the patient outcome could have been fatal.”
It should be noted that the quick thinking of bystanders and staff at the restaurant also saved the patient’s life. It is important that all people be trained in First Aid and CPR. We offer these classes at Denton Township EMS. Call 989-366-8083 or visit 1301 W West Branch Rd if you are interested in getting hands-on training. You never know when your skills might be needed to save a life!
