Big news for Markey Township Fire & EMS!

Captain Chris DeBaeke and Captain David Russo Jr. traveled to Pennsylvania to Global Emergency Vehicles (GEV) to pick up our new ambulance for the community.

Over the next few weeks, the unit will undergo lettering, equipment transition, and final State of Michigan inspection and approval. Once completed, this ambulance will officially become Markey Township’s new 732.

We are committed to improving our resources and care for our residents, and this is another important step forward.

🚑 Markey Township Fire & EMS – Training Announcement 🚑

Markey Township Fire & EMS is pleased to recognize Ashley Tola and Kirstie Russo, who successfully completed the CPR Instructor Course today through First Response Education.

Upon completion of their required initial course monitoring, both members will be certified Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructors. This credential will allow them to provide CPR instruction and contribute to expanding lifesaving training opportunities within our community.

Markey Fire & EMS commends Ashley and Kirstie for their continued commitment to professional development and for strengthening the educational resources available to our residents.

🇺🇸 Veterans Day | Honoring Those Who Served 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication protect the freedoms we cherish every day.

Thank you! We work with some amazing people.

On August 14th, 2025 Denton Township EMS was dispatched to an individual at a local restaurant who was choking. Denton A-1 arrived on scene within two minutes of being dispatched. Paramedic Destyni Traver, EMT Eric Tiepel, and EMT Kaylie Moore immediately arrived to the patient’s side and noticed the patient was unable to speak, was blue, and had an obstructed airway. EMT Tiepel began the Heimlich Maneuver and three large pieces of meat exited the patient’s airway. The patient began breathing again, their color returning to normal, and was able to speak. The patient was then transported to a local hospital and was discharged the same day with no deficits.

On November 5th, 2025 Denton Township awarded the crew with a Life Saving Award for amazing teamwork that saved the patient’s life. Chief Richard Dupon presented the award saying, “there is no doubt without their quick thinking that the patient outcome could have been fatal.”

It should be noted that the quick thinking of bystanders and staff at the restaurant also saved the patient’s life. It is important that all people be trained in First Aid and CPR. You never know when your skills might be needed to save a life!

Spotlight Business of the Week: Barts Fruit Market

We want to give a huge thank you to Bart’s Fruit Market for their continued support of the Markey Firefighters Association. Every year for our Annual Chicken BBQ, Bart’s donates the corn and potatoes that feed hundreds of community members. Their generosity is a big part of what makes this event special.

Bart’s is always there when our community comes together, and we are truly grateful for their ongoing support.

We’re excited to invite everyone to join us Saturday, November 29th from 5PM–8PM at the Markey Fire Department (2113 N Markey Rd, Houghton Lake, MI) for a magical evening celebrating the holiday season with our community! ❤️🚒

🚨 National First Responder Day 🚨

Today we honor and thank all first responders across the nation—firefighters, EMS personnel, paramedics, dispatchers, law enforcement, and so many others—who selflessly put their lives on the line to protect and serve.

We also want to recognize the dedication of our own Markey Township Fire & EMS team, who proudly stand alongside these heroes every day.
