As we gather with family and friends to celebrate Independence Day here in the beautiful Keweenaw, the Michigan Tech Department of Public Safety and Police Services wants to wish everyone a safe, fun, and memorable holiday weekend.

Whether you are enjoying a BBQ, heading out on the water, or watching the local fireworks over the canal, our priority is keeping our campus and community safe.

💡 A Few Quick Tips for a Safe 4th of July:
Leave Fireworks to the Pros: Remember that consumer fireworks are prohibited on Michigan Tech's campus grounds and in residential halls. Catching a community display is the safest (and best!) view around.

Stay Safe on the Water & Roads: If your holiday plans involve traveling or hitting the water, please drive sober, designate a driver, and ensure everyone has a life jacket.

Protect Your Pets: The loud booms can be terrifying for our four-legged friends. Keep pets securely indoors during fireworks displays to prevent them from running off.

Sergeants Maatta and Bianucci attended the first annual Interpersonal Violence Summit created and hosted by the University of Michigan Department of Public Safety and Security. As members of our Special Victims Unit, they are continually improving their education and staying up to date on best practices.
