NOAA has predicted a below-average 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, forecasting eight to 14 named storms, three to six hurricanes, and one to three major hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher. The forecast may be influenced by an emerging El Niño weather pattern, which historically reduces Atlantic storm activity.

***VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY***
Do you believe that some of your CERT members would be interested in joining the Red Cross to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene? We are in urgent need of shelter workers, but if they have other interests such as logistics or driving Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs), we can provide them with the necessary training promptly. Deployments require a commitment of 2 weeks. While they do not need to deploy immediately, they should be prepared to potentially deploy within the next 6 weeks. Those who may be interested can explore our most critical volunteer positions at redcross.org/volunteer

SEVERE WEATHER DAY - A severe weather outbreak is expected around the area on Monday - this will be a long duration event with multiple hours of monitoring - not just one line. We’re expecting a dynamic storm with plenty of wind energy to move across the area. This means all severe hazards are possible. Even away from the storms, expect winds to consistently gust 30-50 mph. Strong tornadoes are possible in this type of environment too. Stay aware of the weather from the afternoon into the overnight Monday. I’ll be on air with the latest on FOX 8 Morning Edition!

TD #13 is set to become Lee and likely will become an intense hurricane down the road. Again, most routes point this north without much of a threat to the United States. The pattern does not favor any Gulf storms right now.
