Today, a great man entered his eternal rest.

C. J. Christ was a respected historian, public speaker, pilot, accomplished author of two books as well as numerous published articles (newspaper and magazines) an honorable Korean Era veteran, proud member of numerous civic and veterans organizations, to name a few accomplishments, and the biggest proudest accomplishment is he is founder of the Regional Military Museum. He peacefully passed away early Wednesday morning, May 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Christ dedicated much of his life to preserving military history, honoring veterans, and educating future generations through his work and service to the community. His passion, leadership, and devotion will leave a lasting legacy for all who knew him.

He will lie in state at the Regional Military Museum in Houma, Louisiana, on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A military service will begin at 11:00 a.m.

Following the service, he will be transported to Lake Charles for burial on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow veterans, and all whose lives he touched. (Regional Military Museum @) (photo taken April 17, 2026)

From our 3rd Dist. Adjutant- Gerald Theriot
Greetings My Fellow Legionnaires,
HB1109 is scheduled to be heard by the House Committee on the Administration of Criminal Justice. While the exact date is pending, the hearing is expected to take place next week. I will keep you all informed.

I am asking for your assistance in mobilizing our members to support this legislation, which is vital for military veterans and first responders. To demonstrate our strength and commitment to the cognitive rehabilitation of our veterans and first responders, please encourage all available legionnaires to attend the hearing in their uniform caps, just as we did while in Washington D.C. If we can in Washington D.C. then we can do better in Louisiana, our home state, which is dealing with our Louisiana veterans.

Additionally, legionnaires can support this effort immediately by emailing members of the committee. Contact information is provided on the attached flyer.

Thank you for your help in getting the word out.

Guess we're flip/flopping. Most recent email from Dept. Commander Oliver Moore regarding Mid-Winter Conf. I'll let you know if it changes.
Thank you for your update regarding the cancellation of the Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion events. We appreciate you keeping the Legion Family informed of these changes.

I wanted to provide a clarifying update regarding the upcoming Mid-Winter Conference. As of today, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the conference is still scheduled to proceed as planned and remains a full go.

We are pleased to confirm that both the National Commander and the leading candidate are still expected to be in attendance. Should there be any unforeseen changes to this status, we will promptly issue further notice to all members.

Sincerely,

Oliver Moore III
Department Commander

CHANGES TO MID-WINTER CONFERENCE IN ALEXANDRIA THIS WEEKEND from GeraldTheriot, 3rd Dist Adjutant:

I received the information below in an email from Department. It seems that only those who have scheduled commission/committee meetings are expected to attend. Meetings are always open to everyone.

The SAL and the Auxiliary have cancelled their meetings.

I have seen nothing addressing hotel reservations except for the SAL who will cancel the SAL reservations.

This is the only information that I have. I'm just passing it on. Please contact HQ for questions.

Third District Adjutant
