🐾 Humane Agents Adams and Ford were honored to participate in the YMCA's Safety Town program this week!

During their visit, the humane agents spoke with nearly 50 children about kindness to animals, proper animal care, and responsible pet ownership. They also shared important dog safety information, using the acronym B.A.R.K. (Be Aware, Responsible, and Kind) to help children remember how to safely interact with dogs. The children learned what to do if approached by an unfamiliar or dangerous dog, including how to "Be a Tree" or "Be a Log."

Each child received a Fight Against Animal Cruelty bracelet and a Humane Agent coloring page. At the end of the presentation, they earned their very own Junior Humane Agent badge sticker for successfully completing the lesson.

We appreciate the YMCA for inviting us to be part of Safety Town and helping us teach young people how to be safe, responsible, and compassionate around animals. Together, we are building a more humane community for both pets and people. 🐾❤️

Young Animal Advocates at YMCA Summer Youth Camp! 🐾

Humane Agents Adams and Ford had the opportunity to visit the YMCA Summer Youth Camp, where they spoke with approximately 50 children about the Humane Society's lifesaving mission and the many programs and services we provide to help pets and families throughout our community.

The children asked fantastic questions and learned about animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and the important role compassion plays in helping animals in need.

Before the visit concluded, every child received a free copy of "Pablo Puppy's Search for the Perfect Person," a heartwarming story that teaches kindness and responsible pet care. They also received a special Be Kind to All Animals coloring page featuring our humane agents.

Thank you to the YMCA Summer Youth Camp for inviting us to spend part of the day with such an enthusiastic and caring group of young animal lovers. We hope the lessons of kindness and compassion stay with them for years to come!

🚀🐾 And they're off!

After being safely trapped by our Humane Agents, these community cats completed their TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) journey and were returned to the places they call home. As you'll see in this video, they didn't waste any time getting back to their normal routines—rocketing out of their traps and heading for freedom!

In total, 23 cats were spayed or neutered, helping prevent future litters and improving the health and well-being of our local community cat population. In addition to being sterilized, each cat also received FVRCP and rabies vaccinations to help protect them from preventable diseases.

A huge thank you to our Humane Agents for safely trapping these cats and to our wonderful medical team for their hard work and dedication in providing these life-saving services.

We are also incredibly grateful to BISSELL Pet Foundation's Fix the Future Program for making this important work possible. Programs like this help create a brighter future for cats and the communities they live in.

Every cat returned today represents fewer kittens born into homelessness and a healthier future for community cats throughout our area.

🐾 Happy Veterinary Assistant Appreciation Week! 🐾

This week at the Fayette Regional Humane Society, we’re celebrating Veterinary Assistants Heather, Haylee, and Loree, along with Animal Health Technician Raina! 🎓💙

Over the past year, Haylee and Loree officially joined Heather as graduates of Veterinary Assistant schooling, and we are incredibly proud of the dedication, compassion, and teamwork all four of these ladies bring to our Animal Health Team at our Animal Care and Adoption Center each and every day. Raina has already become a valued part of the team, and we’re excited to support her continued journey in animal health as well.

Whether they’re assisting with the intake of new animals, medical treatment, comforting sick or frightened animals, helping care for animals recovering in our shelter, or answering the call when our humane agents need assistance in the field, their compassion and teamwork help make a difference every single day. 🩺🐾

Please help us celebrate these amazing team members by leaving them a message of appreciation below! 👇

What a happy ending for sweet Mochi! 💜

Last night at our animal care and adoption center, Mochi the ferret was reunited with her very relieved human mom after quite the unexpected adventure.

A humane agent picked up Mochi after a kind family became concerned about a ferret following them along the bike path. Wanting to make sure she was safe, they contacted police dispatch, who then sent a humane agent to bring her to safety.

Once at our center, Mochi got settled into her very own cozy cage complete with food, water, blankets to snuggle in, and plenty of places to hide and rest. Our animal health and care teams made sure Mochi stayed comfortable and had everything she needed while waiting to be reunited with her family.

According to Mochi’s family, she had escaped during what was supposed to be a routine walk in her zipped-up screened pet stroller. Unlike previous outings, Mochi managed to get out, ran down the creek bank near the bike path, and disappeared into the water. Her girl tried desperately to save Mochi, but eventually lost sight of her Wednesday evening.

Two days later, the family spotted our social media post about a found ferret and immediately recognized their beloved girl.

Mochi is five years old and currently battling lymphoma, requiring daily medication and special nutritional care, making this reunion even more emotional and important for her family.

We are so thankful for the caring family who stopped to help, the police dispatcher, the humane agent who made sure Mochi was safe, our dedicated animal health and care teams, and everyone who shares our found pet posts.

Because of so many compassionate people working together, Mochi is finally back where she belongs — home. 🐾
