Fayette County Medical Reserve Corps

Fayette County Medical Reserve Corps Fayette County Medical Reserve Corps is a group of volunteers ready to respond to emergencies

Fayette County MRC is a governmental organization that establishes teams of local volunteers, both medical and non-medical such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, as well as interpreters, chaplains, office workers, legal advisors, and others—who want to donate their time and knowledge to prepare for and respond to emergencies and promote public health throughout the year.

The potential for such disasters to occur in Fayette County led Fayette County Health Department officials to create a local unit of the Medical Reserve Corps, which was registered with the United States Office of the Surgeon General on the 28th Day of July, 2011. This local unit is currently funded by grants at the state and federal level.

Interested in serving your community? We're inviting new recruits and existing Fayette County Medical Reserve Corps members to a brief volunteer training. We will also review program updates and plan 2026 meetings and events.

You don't have to be a medical professional to join. Our MRC team includes community members who help with registration, clerical support, parking, logistics, and many other essential roles.

Come learn how you can play a role in strengthening local public health response efforts! For more information, email Ethan, our MRC coordinator, at [email protected].

Everyone can be vulnerable to heat, but some more so than others. Check in with friends and relatives who fall in one of the vulnerable populations, especially if they don’t have air conditioning.

Tips for extreme heat:

Never leave people or pets in a closed car on a warm day.

Take cool showers or baths.

Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.

Use your oven less to help reduce the temperature in your home.

If you’re outside, find shade. Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face.

Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

Avoid high-energy activities or work outdoors, during midday heat, if possible.

Check on family members, older adults and neighbors.

Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Consider pet safety. If they are outside, make sure they have plenty of cool water and access to comfortable shade. Asphalt and dark pavement can be very hot to your pet’s feet.

Stay up to date on local emergencies by signing up for local alerts.

During Snow Emergencies, the Dispatch Centers are busy with incoming calls for emergency assistance and keeping up with the radio traffic with our emergency responders.

During these times, please do not call them to ask "What level are we on?" or “how are the roads?”

These questions can be easily answered by:

-Viewing the Fayette County OH Sheriffs Office page
-Downloading the sheriffs office app here: https://apps.myocv.com/share/a42143160
-Visiting their website. https://faycoso.com/

Also, by signing up for Nixle, you can receive up-to-date information as those decisions are made. Simply text your zip code to 888-777.

Please spread the word and keep the phone lines free for emergencies that require emergency assistance.

Thank you!
