The Art of Human Connections
When COVID quarantined Col. Helen George, the 75th Innovation Command's former chief of talent management and currently serving as the chief of innovation for the Army Reserve Retention Task Force, she broke through the isolation barrier by picking up a paint brush and expressing her passion for human relations on canvas.
George invited friends and loved ones to The Houston Club Dec. 21 where her best works adorned its halls and lounge. George explained to her guests that her modern style manages stress while helping her better understand the emotional connections among Soldiers and future Soldiers - a crucial component in her team's role to enhance recruiting and retention throughout the Army Reserve.

Tackling Talent Acquisition
Maj. Charles Stewart and Maj. David Tressler from Silicon Valley Detachment, Mountain View Battalion, 75th Innovation Command, applied their military and civilian skills and experience during the Army Retention Task Force (ARTF) Redesign workshop in Washington, D.C., in early December. The three-day collaboration focused on how to modernize talent acquisition and recruitment, one the greatest challenges facing the U.S. Army , Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve.
Stewart and Tressler's extensive knowledge in corporate sales, branding, and product management offered unique perspectives on how to enhance the candidate-recruiter relationship and improve overall Soldier experience.
This is a prime example of how the 75th IC Soldiers combine their civilian skills and military expertise to accelerate and expand the adoption of new capabilities, innovation, and technology to solve the Army’s toughest problems.

Habari Gani!
Kwanzaa is a week-long holiday held annually from December 26 to January 1. Fundamentally, it celebrates family, culture, community, and the harvest.
Kwanzaa focuses on seven essential principles, known as the Nguzo Saba, which are each represented by one day of the seven-day celebration. These principles are unity (umoja), self-determination (kujichagulia), collective work and responsibility (ujima), cooperative economics (ujamaa), purpose (nia), creativity (kuumba), and faith (imani).
Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday, and families who celebrate Kwanzaa often celebrate it in addition to Christmas, Hanukkah, or another religious holiday.
May this season of good tidings and cheer bring peace, joy, and love under the tree, throughout your home, and in your hearts.
From our Soldiers and families to yours, have a very Merry Christmas.
The holidays bring no greater joy than the opportunity to express how grateful we are for our Soldiers, civilians, our partners in innovation and their families. We give our deepest thanks and warmest wishes for a merry and bright season to you and your loved ones. May the holidays fill your homes and hearts with peace, joy and love as we set our sights on a prosperous new year.

Divine Light: Happy Hanukkah!
Hanukkah, or the Festival of Rededication, celebrates the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem after its defilement by the Syrian Greeks in 164 BCE. Although it is a late addition to the Jewish liturgical calendar, the eight-day festival of Hanukkah has become a beloved and joyous holiday. It is also known as the Festival of Lights and usually takes place in December, at the time of year when the days are shortest in the northern hemisphere.
Central to the holiday is the lighting of the menorah, an eight-branched candelabrum to which one candle is added on each night of the holiday until it is ablaze with light on the eighth night.
Dreidel - a spinning top with four sides, each marked with a different Hebrew letter (nun, gimmel, hey and shin) - is an iconic game synonymous with Hanukkah. Players take turns spinning the dreidel. When the top lands on nun, the player gets nothing; on gimmel, the player gets the entire contents of the pot; hey, the player gets half of the pot; and shin, the player must put a piece (or coin) into the pot.
Special thanks to Col. Tina Kirkpatrick and Dr. Christopher Govekar for sharing their faith, knowledge and experience with this Jewish holiday.

Scratching the Surface of Possibilities
Representatives from Microsoft invited Soldiers and civilians from the 75th Innovation Command to the Microsoft Technology Center Houston Dec. 14, 2022, for a demonstration of its Surface Hub 2S, a team collaboration device designed to enhance remote meetings. The three-hour tour showcased the the Surface Hub's displays, pens, cameras and apps. The 75th IC visitors also stepped into the virtual world as they donned Hololens 2 VR Headsets to manipulate virtual menus and objects to solve real world technical problems.
Led by Azam Zaidi, principal technical architect (Biz Apps) at MTC Houston, the interactive presentations and hands-on demonstrations opened discussions on how to integrate interactive white boards and virtual reality throughout United States Army Reserve. From conducting complex planning sessions at command headquarters to virtually deconstructing vehicles to assess damage and diagnose malfunctions, the event showcased the significance of collaborating with corporate partners to secure America's dominance on the battlefield.

Approximately 272 years before the U.S. Army Reserve formally joined the ranks of our nation's military, The National Guard protected life and property across Great Britain's North American colonies and, later, the states and territories of the USA. After four centuries, the National Guard continues its historic dual mission, providing trained units to the states, territories and the District of Columbia while providing trained units to the nation equipped and ready to defend the United States and its interests all over the globe.
The 75th Innovation Command is proud to serve alongside our fellow Citizen Soldiers and Airmen in the National Guard. Many Soldiers in the 75th IC started their military careers in the Guard. Their experience has enhanced our capabilities to discover frontier technologies to dominate the battlefield.
Happy 386th Birthday to the National Guard.

For Those Who Are About to 'ROC'
Dozens of Soldiers from the 75th Innovation Command briefed the command's current and future outlook to senior leaders during a Rehearsal of Concept drill conducted Dec. 2, 2022, at Joint Reserve Base Ellington Field in Houston, Texas.
Group commanders and command sergeants major collaborated with their headquarters and city detachment counterparts to visually display the operational environment on a 50-foot wide map of the 75th IC's sphere of influence. Posters and placards supported the participants' understanding of the date, time and scope of dozens of missions throughout the world. The colorful layout coupled with technical presentations further reinforced mutual comprehension while ensuring every mission aligned with the goals and initiatives of the U.S. Army Reserve and the Army Modernization Enterprise.
The 75th IC plans to conduct ROC drills on a semi-annual basis to increase collaboration, predict trends and enhance capabilities that will counter future threats with cutting edge technology.

Remembering the Past, Honoring the Present, and Forging the Future
Today the 75th Innovation Command honors the past, present and future. It is the 81st Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, an attack that claimed more than 2,400 lives and propelled America into the Second World War.
We also commend Sgt. 1st Class Ricky P. Gonzales, information technology specialist, 75th Innovation Command. Gonzales served in the U.S. Navy for 25 years before enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserve in 2008. As part of his retirement celebrations, Gonzales was recognized during the Pearl Harbor Commemoration at the Galveston Naval Museum Dec. 3, 2022.
Gonzales even played the trombone during the ceremony. Now that's multitasking!
The 75th IC will further honor Gonzales with a retirement ceremony hosted by the command early next year.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the survivors of the date that has lived in infamy. We also send our best wishes and congratulations to Sgt. 1st Class Gonzales and his family for their support, service and sacrifice for the U.S. Army Reserve and the U.S. Navy.

More Than Mere Names
The 75th Innovation Command expresses its gratitude to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund for inviting Master Sgt. Kisha S. White, military equal opportunity advisor, 75th IC, to speak with hundreds of Vietnam War veterans and their families at The Wall That Heals - Chambers County Oct. 30 in Anahuac, Texas.
White, who has served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 29 years, dedicated her address to the 58,307 names that appear on the Wall That Heals, a three quarter scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C.
"Their future was cut short; their hopes and dreams along with it, " said White. "And the families of those who didn’t return - whose names are etched on the Wall - experienced the painful loss of a loved one without the collective support of their nation."
White also paid homage to the Vietnam War veterans and their families in attendance.
"You were sometimes blamed for misdeeds of a few, when the honorable service of the many should have been praised," said White. "You came home and sometimes were denigrated, when you should have been celebrated ... I encourage everyone here to join us in righting the wrong of honoring our heroes who stand with us today and the ones on the wall who made the ultimate sacrifice."

National American Indian History Month: Celebrating Respect, Culture, and Education
This month the Army recognizes and expresses appreciation for the contributions of Native American Army Soldiers, Veterans, Civilians and Family members, and to reflect on their achievements and contributions to the Army and to our nation.
Throughout our history, Native Americans have defended America and served in the Armed Forces with great courage and distinction. Today, more than 9,000 Soldiers of American Indian or Alaska Native descent serve in our Army. They are valued members
of the Army team who continue a long legacy of professionalism and selfless service.
This year's theme is "Celebrating Respect, Culture, and Education." American Indians and Alaska Natives include a diverse population of 574 federally recognized Tribal Nations and villages residing in the United States. These communities are not homogenous and
have distinctive traditions they celebrate within their tribal cultures.
We recognize their rich heritage and honor their spirit and true devotion to our nation.
