Mississippi law enforcement has lost a dedicated public servant. Former Houston Police Chief Billy Voyles devoted more than three decades to serving the people of Chickasaw County and the City of Houston, including 31 years as Chickasaw County Constable and 16 years as Houston Police Chief.

Chief Voyles leaves behind a legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to his community that will not be forgotten. Please keep his family, friends, fellow officers, and the Houston community in your prayers during the days ahead. Rest easy, Chief. Your watch is over, but your legacy lives on. 💙🖤

Remembering Chief Billy Voyles

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of former Houston Police Chief Billy Voyles, who passed away Monday, August 24, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Chief Voyles dedicated more than three decades of his life to serving and protecting the people of Chickasaw County and the City of Houston. He faithfully served as Chickasaw County Constable for 31 years and as Chief of Police for the City of Houston for 16 years.

Billy’s commitment to public service was more than a job—it was a calling. His dedication, leadership, and love for the community touched countless lives. His legacy of service will not be forgotten.

Please keep Billy’s family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of serving alongside him in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

🚌 BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER 🛑

As students return to school, the Houston Police Department reminds everyone to be patient, courteous, and alert while traveling through our community.

School traffic means more children walking, riding bicycles, and getting on and off school buses. A few extra moments of caution can make all the difference.

Please check maps attached for your local route or call the school you will be attending if you have any questions.

🚸 Please remember:

* Slow down in school zones and obey posted speed limits.
* Be patient with increased traffic during morning and afternoon pick-up times.
* Stay off your phone and eliminate distractions while driving.
* Watch carefully for children who may unexpectedly cross the street.
* Always stop for a school bus when its stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing—no matter where you encounter it, unless you’re on a divided highway where state law provides an exception.

Let’s all do our part to ensure every student arrives at school and returns home safely.
