🌊 A stretch of the Texas coast from Sabine Pass to Matagorda Island could soon get national recognition.

A new bill from U.S. Rep. Randy Weber would create the Lone Star Coastal National Recreation Area, a 168-mile corridor designed to boost tourism, recreation, conservation, and economic development while keeping land ownership and local control intact. What makes the proposed Lone Star Coastal National Recreation Area different?

Unlike traditional park models, it is built on local leadership, voluntary participation, and partnerships among communities, landowners, businesses, conservation organizations, and public agencies.

The goal is simple: to celebrate, connect and elevate the extraordinary places, stories, landscapes and outdoor experiences that make the Upper Texas Gulf Coast one of America's most remarkable coastal regions.

Have you met the proposed Lone Star Coastal National Recreation Area?

Recently introduced in Congress as H.R. 9325, this Texas-led, partnership-based initiative would help celebrate and elevate the nationally significant natural, cultural, recreational and working lands of the Upper Texas Gulf Coast.

The legislation would:

• Expand recreation and public access
• Support conservation and coastal resilience
• Strengthen working lands, cultural heritage and coastal communities
• Promote tourism and long-term economic opportunity across the region

Built on local leadership, voluntary participation, and strong partnerships, proposed the Lone Star Coastal National Recreation Area reflects more than 15 years of collaboration across the Upper Texas Gulf Coast.

Congressman Randy Weber has introduced H.R. 9325, the Lone Star Coastal National Recreation Area Act, a Texas-led, partnership-based approach to advancing recreation, conservation, coastal resilience and economic opportunity across the Upper Texas Gulf Coast.

The Lone Star Coastal Alliance extends its deepest gratitude to Congressman Weber and his colleagues, Rep. Troy Nehls (TX22) and Rep. Brian Babin (TX36) and Rep. Wesley Hunt (TX38) for their leadership and support of this longstanding community vision.

Rooted in local leadership and supported through partnerships with the National Park Service, the proposed National Recreation Area would create a framework across Jefferson, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria and Matagorda Counties to:

• expand recreation and public access,
• strengthen coastal resilience and conservation,
• support working lands, cultural heritage, and coastal communities, and
• enhance tourism and long-term economic vitality across the region.

After more than 15 years of collaboration, this milestone reflects the dedication of local communities, landowners, conservation partners, businesses and elected officials working together to elevate the Upper Texas Gulf Coast.
