Exciting improvements are coming to Stude Park!

The Memorial Heights Redevelopment Authority and Houston Parks and Recreation Department are moving forward with plans for a new nature inspired playground designed for all ages and abilities. Thank you to everyone who shared feedback through surveys and community engagement efforts. Your input helped shape the vision for this project.

The proposed design includes a central gathering space with lawn games, seating, and a vibrant play area featuring climbing, balancing, and interactive elements.

These improvements will help create a more welcoming, accessible, and family friendly space for the community. Construction is anticipated to begin in the second quarter of 2027.

The Woodland Heights neighborhood sign at Houston Avenue and White Oak Drive has been repaired following damage caused by a vehicle that drove onto the sidewalk and into the brick base.

In addition to restoring the sign, new safety improvements have been added to help protect this community space moving forward. A bollard has now been installed around the parkette to help prevent vehicles from entering the pedestrian area and to enhance safety for residents and visitors.

This project not only restores a valued neighborhood landmark but also prioritizes long-term pedestrian safety and protection for the surrounding area.

The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) is inviting North Houston residents and community members to help shape future transportation improvements in the area.

Join the public meeting for the North Houston Communities Transportation Priorities Plan (NHCTPP) on Tuesday, May 19, from 5–7 p.m. at the Montie Beach Community Center.
Community feedback will help identify priorities related to:

Walking & biking access
Transit connections
Safety concerns
Street conditions

Progress continues on the Shepherd Durham project with work underway on a new 12-inch water line between 7th and 8th Streets on the Shepherd Service Road.

The upgrade will replace an aging section of water infrastructure and improve system reliability. The new water main will also include valves that allow smaller sections of the line to be isolated during maintenance, helping reduce impacts to nearby businesses and residents.

Upgrades like this are an important part of the broader improvements taking place across the project area.

We're advancing proposed improvements along the Nicholson and MKT Trails to enhance safety and accessibility in the Heights.

The project includes proposed upgrades to crosswalks, ADA ramps, lighting improvements, and better sidewalk connections along Nicholson from the MKT Trail to W 26th Street and along the MKT Trail from Shepherd to Yale.
