🌳 Exciting news, neighbors! Have you spotted the new trees popping up along Shepherd and Durham?

Now through February, we’re planting over 600 trees, including some to replace those lost to storms and other factors. This effort is all about making our streets greener, cooler, and more beautiful for everyone.

Here are the latest changes that may impact your commute starting tomorrow:

➡️ Currently, the south side of the roadway (eastbound direction) has been closed for the construction of drainage and pavement elements.

➡️ After the traffic shift, the south side (eastbound direction) will be re-opened and the north side (westbound direction) will be closed from Shepherd to Durham.

➡️ While the eastbound direction will be open to traffic, drivers are urged to use alternate routes to avoid any delays associated with construction.

We appreciate our community for bringing to our attention that a CenterPoint pole at 11th and Durham is interfering with ADA access. We are actively collaborating with Council Member Abbie Kamin's office, the City of Houston, and CenterPoint to develop a solution that provides ADA access at this location until this area of Phase 2 is completed.

The pole was installed in preparation for Phase 2 of the Shepherd Durham project. Moving forward, we will maintain close communication with CenterPoint to resolve any issues promptly.

What a view!

While some parts of the Greater Heights area are walkable, there are many neighborhoods which are not. If you live west of Durham, in Shady Acres, you know.

On Heights Blvd., 2 people have been killed while walking and biking. At 10th and Shepherd, 3 people, including 2 people in wheelchairs, have been killed.

Even where we have sidewalks, many are badly broken, not accessible if you have mobility issues.

19th and 20th west of Durham, which are rapidly developing, have needed improvements for years.

The new sidewalks on 19th are a huge improvement for a street where drivers speed.

We are very appreciative of Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher for funding this project and Memorial Heights Redevelopment Authority for guiding it to completion.

The 28th St. intersection at Durham Dr. will be closed from today, September 25, 2024, until Monday, October 7, 2024.

➡️ Southbound traffic on Durham will not be affected.
➡️ Drivers wishing to turn west (right) onto 28th St. should detour via 27th St. Traffic west of Durham should use 27th St. to access Durham and points east.
➡️ Eastbound traffic on 28th St. can still access Durham but must detour to 27th St. to continue west.
