We thank our detectives for their hard work in arresting 40-year-old Regino Ausencio of Lincoln, and taking him off the streets of Placer County on July 28th, after a month-long investigation.

Ausencio, who works in the wedding industry, was introduced to a 14-year-old male victim in June, who was going to help him with his events by providing translation services to Ausencio. After meeting the minor, Ausencio began to talk with him about inappropriate s*xual topics, and eventually became aggressive with the minor. The minor told his parents what happened and his parents contacted the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives launched an investigation into the incident and began communicating with Ausencio so that Ausencio believed he was communicating with the minor. Ausencio requested inappropriate images from the minor and arranged to meet him at a park. He arrived at the meeting location at the designated time, and was surprised to be met by deputies who subsequently took him into custody. Ausencio was arrested on several felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor and directing a minor to produce child po*******hy, and remains in custody without bail.

On June 29, the R&B singer R. Kelly (whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly) was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He was found guilty September 27, 2021, of racketeering and s*x-trafficking charges stemming from a decades-long practice of recruiting and grooming girls and young women for illegal s*x.

Judge Ann Donnelly, who oversaw his trial, handed down this sentence, plus an additional five years of supervised release and a $100,000 fine. Donnelly condemned Kelly for the "serial r**e and s*xual abuse" he perpetrated on his victims.

During the prosecution, more than 40 witnesses were called to testify in Kelly's summer 2020 trial. The women, many of whom were teenagers when they met Kelly, testified that he directed them to have s*x with him and each other and said he would videotape their s*xual encounters. Kelly is scheduled to stand trial in August on child s*xual abuse material (child po*******hy) and obstruction of justice charges.
