On February 9, Consul General Cai Wei and US Rep. Green jointly held a press conference in Houston Chinatown on combating against the novel coronavirus pneumonia. Near 100 guests, including Texas state representative Gene Wu, Houston council members Tiffany Thomas and Edward Pollard, Director of the Houston Municipal Health Bureau Dr. Persse, Stafford City Council member Alice Chen, Chairman of Southern U.S. News Group Li Weihua. Deputy Consul Wang Yu and consuls were present. More than 30 media including CBS TV, KHOU TV, Xinhua News Agency, China News Agency, Southern Chinese Daily News, and SinovisionNet made the live coverage.
CG Cai Wei introduced China’s efforts against the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, and stressed that under President Xi Jinping’s leadership, China has been taking the most comprehensive and rigorous prevention and control measures, and we are fully confident and capable to win the battle against the epidemic. China is fighting the outbreack for the sake of the health of its people as well as the world’s people. The Chinese side has been acting with openness, transparency and a responsible attitude. World Health Organization (WHO) and many countries have recognized and commended this.
Cai pointed out that President Xi Jinping had a phone call with US President Donald Trump recently, and the two sides agreed to maintain communication and strengthen coordination to jointly control the epidemic. This is the time for facts, not fear, for science, not rumors, and for solidarity, not stigma. The virus might be fearful in itself. But what is more fearful are rumors, panic and racism. We should resolutely stop the spread of rumors and firmly reject any racial discrimination. Hubei: Home to Wonders
Situated in Central China, Hubei Province, as indicated by its name (Hu means lake; bei means north), is on the north of Dongting Lake. Hubei celebrates a long history and the brilliant Chu culture that endow the region with numerous cultural relics. Hubei is often nicknamed ‘Chu’, after the powerful State of Chu which existed in the era of the Zhou dynasty. Artisan woodworks, complex calligraphy and bronze vessel offerings are all talismans of Chu culture, not to mention the distinct music and unique instruments which have been discovered over the years. A set of bells discovered in the tomb of Marquis Yi in Hubei’s city of Suizhou is one of the treasured ancient musical instruments in the world.

Mount Huangshan (黄山), known as “the loveliest mountain of China,” lies in the South of Anhui Province in eastern China. Named Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) by imperial order in the year 747 in the Tang Dynasty, Mount Huangshan has attracted many visitors since then, including hermits, poets and painters, who eulogized the mountain’s magnificent scenery of massive granitic boulders and ancient pine trees among cloud and mist. Xu Xiake (1587-1641), a Ming dynasty travel writer and geographer, made a classic comment on Mount Huangshan: “It is not worth seeing other mountains if you have been to the Five Peaks; and it is not worth seeing the Five Peaks if you have been to Mount Huangshan(五岳归来不看山,黄山归来不看岳).”

600 Years of Kunqu 昆曲六百年
Kunqu(昆曲)is one of the oldest and most refined styles of traditional Chinese opera. Kun(昆) refers to Kunshan and qu(曲) means music. The name derives from the fact that one of the principal types of regional music that went into the making of Kunqu came from the district of Kunshan near Suzhou, in modern Jiangsu Province. This type of regional music goes back to the 14th century. It is a synthesis of drama, opera, poetry recital, and musical recital.

I.M.Pei: Building China Modern
In 2004, the legendary Pritzker Prize winning architect Mr. I.M. Pei took on the project of building a new museum for the city of Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. To make the Suzhou Museum a modern museum in perfect harmony with all the old classical buildings around it, Mr. Pei used whitewashed walls and grayish-black tiled roofs to reflect the traditional style of people’s houses in Jiangnan. Suzhou Museum is a modern rendition of traditional Chinese architecture. The new museum inaugurated in October, 2006.

Korla was historically known as Yuli (尉犁) during the Han Dynasty, during which it has had 1200 households and 9600 residents. It is also called the "Pear City" for its fragrant pears. Korla is famous for its cultural heritage sites, including the Iron Pass (铁门关), Bosten Lake, Loulan Ancient City, Altun Wildlife Natural Reserve, Bayinbulak Grassland, and Peacock River.
