🎉For #ThrowbackThursday, we want to reintroduce you to the FIRST Executive Director of the National Urban League, George Edmund Haynes, who served from 1911 to 1918.

🤜🏾🤛🏾 During his time with the National Urban League, he established the first Black social work training program at Fisk University.

🚨Through this program, he advocated for the creation of a pipeline of black social workers who could serve Urban League affiliates across the country.

4️⃣Four.
✊🏾✊🏽✊🏿✊🏼It was just 4 courageous, young college students who staged the initial coordinated sit-in demonstration at a Woolworth's in Greensboro, NC, and sparked a wave of sit-ins that became a key feature for action in the nation's first Civil Rights Movement.
Ezell Blair Jr., David Richmond, Franklin McCain and Joseph McNeil, known as the Greensboro 4, refused to leave the segregated lunch counter after being denied service on Feb. 1, 1960. By Feb. 3, about 300 more students joined the protest.
By the end of March, similar sit-ins were being staged in 55 cities across 13 states. We salute the Greensboro 4 and all those who sacrified and fought for our freedoms and rights. We will continue the fight. #BlackHistoryMonth

🎉🙌🏾Congratulations to Stacey Abrams on her nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize. She has helped lead a movement to eradicate voter suppression in her state of Georgia and helped to drive record voter turnout, leading to historic outcomes. She has proven that she cannot and will not be stopped, despite the mounting efforts.

We are also pleased to see the now-global Black Lives Matter movement was also nominated for the prestigious Peace Prize.

"Awarding the Peace Prize to Black Lives Matter, as the global strongest force against racial injustice, will send a powerful message that peace is founded on equality, solidarity, and human rights, and that all countries must respect those basic principles," said Peter Eide, a Norwegian lawmaker.
