Earl Carl Institute for Legal and Social Policy, Inc. Creating a new vision for legal and social justice The Institute was established in 1992 by Professor Marcia Johnson as a research and writing think tank at Thurgood Marshall School of Law on the campus of Texas Southern University.

Since that time the Institute has grown to include the Center for Civil Advocacy, the Center for Criminal Justice and the Center for Government Law. The Harris County Public Defender’s Office is hosting a virtual Participatory Defense Meeting. These meetings will be held every second Wednesday of the month from 6:30 PM – 8:00PM. The next meeting is March 9th from 6:30PM – 8:00PM. Participatory Defense is a community organizing model for individuals engaged in the justice system, their families, and communities impacted by the justice system. The goal of Participatory Defense is to transform the landscape of the local court system by increasing Community Knowledge and Strengthening Family Resolve.

The Harris County Public Defender’s Office is hosting a virtual Participatory Defense Meeting. These meetings will be held every second Wednesday of the month from 6:30 PM – 8:00PM.
