The 13th Annual Mayor's Back 2 School Fest Presented by Shell is this Saturday, August 5th at the George R Brown Convention Center. The Houston Health Department will be onsite administering routine vaccinations. There will also be other free health screenings as well as backpacks and supplies. The Mayor's Back 2 School Fest Presented by Shell is next Saturday, August 5th at the George R Brown Convention Center! Backpack stuffing is in full swing at the Houston Food Bank. Today we were joined by Vice Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex Tatum, Christina Jones from Shell, and President and CEO of the HFB, Brian Greene to get a behind the scenes look. The Council on Recovery is happy to support Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s Turn To campaign. Turn To aims to help connect Texans to support and resources they can use to cope successfully with mental health issues instead of turning to substances like alcohol and drugs.
As a sponsor of the Houston Mayor’s Back 2 School Fest Presented by Shell, the Turn To campaign will bring together local providers like Santa Maria Hostel, Community Family Centers, and DePelchin Children's Center to create more meaningful connections in the communities they serve.

Please join the City of Houston, today, April 19th, for the Earth Day HTX Festival. The event will feature a large earth model, along with citywide accomplishments like advances in recycling, water conservation, and solar technology. Everyone can also participate in hands-on activities such as a tour of a tiny house, a stroll through a simulated forest, and an electric vehicle ride and drive. The outdoor event will also have food trucks, performances, musical guests (Including The Slaggs), and giveaways.
Come to City Hall to enjoy this beautiful temporary park today, Wednesday, April 19, 10am-2pm! Earth Day HTX concludes with a Festival exhibiting sustainable initiatives by City Departments. There is a special art installation in the reflection pool and at noon there will be a Fashion Show! We’ll also have food trucks on-site for the lunch crowd! See you there!
