General information

In 1988, Isha Salas Deselle sold her home and used her personal life savings to acquire a dilapidated 34-unit apartment complex in Houston's Spring Branch area near Long Point and Wirt Road. This hopeless property was eventually transformed into a safe haven sanctuary and new life launching center for Houston's elderly homeless. Originally established as "The Rehab Mission," this facility received its non-profit status in 1989 to provide support shelter & services for elderly homeless individuals. Later in January 2003, the name of the organization was changed to "The Turning Point Center," which better reflectes and continues to represent this organization's goals. The Turning Point Center has been providing services for residents in Harris County for over 23 years, and today houses approximately 180 residents at any one time per year.

Thank you for helping those in need in your community! Your compassionate missions reminds me of philanthropist John Paul DeJoria in the film Good Fortune. The documentary follows John Paul DeJoria from his poor, humble beginnings to the success he attains today. On his journey, John Paul faced homelessness twice while trying to make a living in sales. After numerous failed opportunities and closed doors, DeJoria didn’t stop there and endured through life’s trying times to achieve the success he acquires today. For him success is defined as being the best at what you do and helping others, not about profit. JP now sponsors more than 160 nonprofits and is dedicated to helping those transition out of homelessness. This uplifting and inspiring film Good Fortune Movie Houston Premiere is screening at AMC Studio 30 this July 14th until 20th!
