Baby Red Shoulder Hawk transported to safety by deputy in Patrol Car - Earlier today, PCT 7 Deputy Matthew Rodriguez was flagged down regarding an Animal Humane Call by a resident who lives in the Precinct 7 West Bellfort Contract. A baby Red Shoulder Hawk had fallen out of its nest from a tree in the homeowner's front yard. Deputy Rodrigez, put in a call to the Game Warden to find a safe place to take the bird. The animal was transported in the deputy's patrol car in an empty Pamper's box provided by the homeowner to the Annie White Graham Wildlife Center. The bird was healthy and in good condition.

According to the staff at the Annie White Graham Wildlife Center, this was the sixth baby Shoulder Hawk they received today. Center Point Energy took in five birds today because they had to take down a large telephone pole that had a nest at the top of it.

Great job, Deputy Rodriguez!

Runaway Horse captured by PCT 7 Deputies and turned over to Animal Control

Houston - A loose horse was spotted by Precinct 7 Deputy Monica Bilbo in the roadway near the community park between Beekman Road and Griggs Road earlier this morning. The park is steps away from the Harris County Constable Precinct 7 Main Office. Deputy Bilbo called in and reported the horse in the roadway to Precinct 7 dispatchers. While waiting for assistance from other deputies who had been dispatched to her location, Deputy Bilbo slowly followed behind the horse in her patrol car until help arrived.

At approximately 10:30 am a wrecker driver equipped with a rope and PCT 7 Deputy William Nowlin arrived on the scene. The wrecker driver was able to capture the horse safely. The beautiful escapee was then lead to the back parking lot of Precinct 7 until Animal Control arrived. Animal Control will check to see if the horse has been microchipped to locate the owner of the escaped animal. The owner of the animal can also call 3-1-1 to find out how to retrieve their horse.

Appreciation for a Sergeant always goes above and beyond the call of duty - The winter storm that devastated much of Texas in February especially took a toll on our Senior residents. While on patrol, shortly after the winter storm, PCT 7 Sergeant Odell Haynes came across a resident at her wit's end. Haynes said, "I stopped to check on the homeowner because she was standing outside of her yard in tears while holding a small ax." Homeowner, Juanita Benson, was upset because a tree had fallen on her car. She also had no way of removing it on her own and no one around to help her at the time. So, Sgt. Haynes removed the tree for her. When another resident saw him, he joined in to help by chopping the tree into smaller pieces making it easier for disposal.

Weeks later and still touched by Sgt. Haynes' kindness, Juanita Benson stopped by Precinct 7 today with a token of her appreciation.
