July 18th, 2017 marks 100 years since the 36th Infantry Division was created as the nation ramped up for war. Actor and patriot Gary Sinise provided the introduction for this video, which follows the division through the original muster at Camp Bowie and into World War I, World War II, the transformation of the Texas Army National Guard, the Global War on Terrorism, Defense Support to Civil Authorities, and numerous training exercises at home and abroad. Thanks to Gary Sinise for all of his support for those who serve our nation, and thanks to Michael W. Smith for allowing us to use his music in the video. Texas Military Department

Each year the Friday before Mother's Day is Military Spouse Appreciation Day; May 11, 2012. "The first Military Spouse Day was first celebrated in 1984 when then-President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the observance to honor the contributions of military spouses. The military now sets aside the Friday before Mother's Day each year to pay tribute to the spouses who play a vital role in the nation's defense." (
