When the storm clears in the Heartland, Aid to Navigation Teams work to ensure maritime vessel traffic safety continues.

From the Gulf Coast to our vital western river systems, hurricanes and tropical storms pack a heavy punch. They can shift buoys off-station, damage day beacons and knock out crucial range lights that guide vessel traffic.

That is when the U.S. Coast Guard Heartland District ANT crews head out into the elements. Whether repairing complex electronic marine signals or resetting solar-powered channel markers, these crews work around the clock to safely get America’s Marine Transportation System back online.

Keeping maritime commerce moving and mariners out of the shoals—that is the mission.
