Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base is a combined active duty, reserve, national guard and homeland security installation located in Houston, Texas. The base operates through collaborative agreements among the tenants units. EFJRB is home for numerous units from all five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. EFJRB is part of the larger city-owned Ellington Airport, which hosts both civilian and military aviation operations. The Texas Air National Guard’s 147th Reconnaissance Wing, commanded by an Air National Guard colonel, operates as the host unit for EFJRB due to the aviation focus of the installation, as well as the Texas ANG’s position as the primary military tenant over much of the base’s history. However, the Army Reserve’s 75th Training Command, commanded by a major general (or 2-star) is the senior military headquarters on the installation, and the Navy has the largest reserve troop presence. Ellington Field JRB derives its name from the property’s original military designation when it was constructed as an Army Air Corps training base in 1917. In addition to being the training home of more than 5,000 reservists from all branches, the base serves as a resource to thousands of military personnel in the greater Houston area and 35,000 military retirees and a regional veteran population of about 300,000.

Does this base have a Commissary? If so, what size is it? Worth traveling to if you live in the Houston area or is a local grocery store better for the time lost due to travel?

Is there an MWR office on this base? Can’t find any info.
Is the ID office open yet? If so, do we make an appointment?
Is there a Medical Treatment Facility located at Ellington Field?
This has to be the worst run Military ID post in Texas. The employees are lazy and non responsive to any inquiries you may have. We went there 3 times to get a military ID and each time they were either sick, couldn’t do any more for the day because they had to close on time or the system was done. My husband is a disabled veteran and uses a power chair and the volunteer inside was very rude and condescending to us both. I asked for a supervisor and they said they don’t have one. Someone needs to monitor what those people do and how they treat people. But they did have time to order pizza, laugh and gossip. The service at Ellington is shameful.
