AAMA Empowering Learners. Inspiring Leaders. AAMA inspires and empowers Latinos to pursue their potential and achieve success. We are focused in the areas of academic achievement, English proficiency, workforce readiness and leadership development.
(21)

Founded in 1970, today AAMA serves more than 20,000 men, women, and children annually in Houston, San Antonio and Laredo. In Houston, AAMA has pioneered critical work with at risk youth through the highly successful and nationally recognized George I. Sanchez Charter School, which offers Grades 7-12 and Pre-Kindergarten. Our adult education program, AAMA Adelante (To move forward), provides classes in ABE (Adult Basic Education), ESL (English as a second language) and GED (General Education Development) to approximately 1,200 students each year. AAMA's health and human services is recognized as one of the most successful providers in Texas for alcohol and drug prevention and treatment services for children, youth and adults, including residential and outpatient services. The most recent U.S. Census indicates that a large share of the nation's economic growth will depend on the millions of Latino children in the U.S. public school system and on the educational employment opportunities that they are given. The economy and labor market of the future will be, for the most part, met by today's Latino students, who will constitute a large share of the nation's workforce. The targeted communities, which AAMA serves, are living in economic and social distress. AAMA is one of the few safety nets for those we serve.

Mission: Our Mission: AAMA inspires and empowers Latinos to pursue and achieve their potential.

AAMA turns 50

Today November 23, in 1970, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) was created. We celebrate the vision of our founders and their families – as well as the thousands of students, families, and clients that we have served over the last 50 years. Let us celebrate our legacy as an organization!

AAMA serves over 10,000 individuals annually across Texas through charter schools, prevention and counseling services, and adult education. We express gratitude to our partners, collaborators, Board members, volunteers and employees who made these five decades of service to the community possible. We look forward to continuing to build on successes and increasing our impact in the years to come.

As we enter the holiday season, take steps to protect your family and consider celebrating differently this year. Participating in outdoor gatherings is safer than indoor events, but attendees still need to practice social distancing and mask-wearing. Video calls offer the opportunity to interact with friends and family during holiday events without the risk associated with in-person gatherings.

About AAMA’s Mission

For more than 50 years, AAMA has helped Latinos achieve their potential. We've motivated youth to finish school and encouraged many to go on to college. We've taught immigrant adults to communicate in English and have guided scores of them to gain the knowledge they need to become contributing United States citizens. We've prepared them to enter workforce development courses and secure livable wage jobs. We've helped both youth and adults break the cycle of addiction and make positive choices that improve the quality of their lives. AAMA has empowered men, women and children to pursue their dreams and inspired leaders within the community. In short, AAMA has helped tens of thousands of Latinos to achieve. To be truly amazing.

Hello Eagles...for 11 years I was your Director of Security. For 10 of those years I sponsored the Senior Class and held the annual BBQ fundraiser for the school prom. I am asking for everyone to come out and support Deputy Juarez who from 2005-2007 worked security at the school. The plates are $8.00 there will be live music, DJ, raffles and auction. Of course there will be some ice cold adult beverages. Hope to you at 55 Berry Rd @ Nick's Drive Inn. 10a - till the music stops.

ESPERANDO EL DESTINO another noir fiction of Alejandro Marin www.cortemoslacarajo.blogspot.com A story that begins in a charity party in the south of Spain; continues through Asunción, capital of Paraguay; ciudad del Este, capital of unlawful activities and finishes in Buenos Aires. Our now friends, Jordi Gonorria, economist who also plays the role of amateur “chef” and the former police inspector Quito Verdudo, rub shoulders with the human trafficking mafia and with the politicians that rig them. A tough story, traced by a doomed fate, that even though some passages may amuse us, in others load us with the anguish produced by this modern way of enslaving and abusing of the helpless. As it is already a custom, they are accompanied by the usual friends and characters emerged from the story, the literature and even from the movies. And they end up stumbling with astonishing revelations of current issues which the media published in front pages not long ago. In the itinerary, our economist-cook some time enjoys and others bears his emotional and erotic hieroglyphs. And he makes time to offer us delicious dishes, kitchen stories and hot news about economy and economists. Available (in spanish) AMAZON KINDLE store.
