This evening Engine 10's crew (Capt. Brandon Minnich, Lt. Brian Faught, Lt. Russell Lamson and FF. Joe Kelly) was approached by a young couple while out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse near Hwy 290 and Hwy 6; asking for assistance with a flat tire. After first attempting to assist with the tools the couple provided and what was on the engine it was quickly discovered a larger jack was needed. Without hesitation the crew returned to the station to pick-up a personal floor jack and jack stands and returned to the restaurant to finish the job. Cody and Amber were safely on their way in no time at all.

Last week our Department resumed in person training and your local Station 10 members couldn't have been more excited to work together to knock off the rust and sharpen our skills. Cy-Fair FD Annual Christmas Eve Tradition 🎄🚒

Twas the night before Christmas and like all Decembers
Not a creature was stirring, not even the members
The gear was all hung in the stations with luck
That on any fire call they’d all make the truck
The Chiefs were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of fire toys danced in their heads
The records were finished, the training on hold
Dispatch was snuggled all warm from the cold
When over the pagers there arose such a clatter
We sprang from our beds to see what was the matter
Something was burning - no time to be slow
Though it was Christmas, we still have to go
With sirens a’wailing, we sped to the glow
Through dark city streets and the new fallen snow
Go pumpers, go ladders, go rehab van
Upon your arrival report to command

More rapid than eagles, the Chief’s people came
And he shouted and whistled and called them by name
On six, eight, on ten, and engine nine
And the rest of you too, you’re doing just fine

“Give me a search, and fast attack, too”
So into the house the firefighters flew
The fire, it was blazing, the flames to the heavens
This is the big one, we’ll even call sevens

The ambulance made it and set up their post
When interior ran out, looking white as a ghost
“Look what we’ve found,” they shouted together
And almost fell down with the thought of a feather

He was dressed all in red from his head to his foot
His clothes were covered with ashes and soot
His eyes had a twinkle, his beard was so thick
His pack full of toys, it must be Saint Nick!

He said, “thanks for the rescue and the Gatorade, too
I wish I could stay but I have much work to do
You see, I was stuck in a chimney so small
I worried about having no Christmas at all”

“But thanks to your efforts, I’ll be on my way”
And as he was leaving, we all heard him say
“The gift that I leave thanks to each of you
Are nothing compared to the giving you do”

“For the time and the service, for the help that you give
For keeping us safe wherever we live
My holiday wish as you keep up the fight
Merry Christmas to all into all, a good night!”

Merry Christmas and happy holidays from the Dispatcher and Officers of the Cy-Fair Fire Department

Good morning all,

Pandemic or NOT your local Station 10 Firefighters were back in action last night getting in our hose stretch drills. CFFD has a wide variety of multi-story buildings where hose lines may need to deployed up stair wells. We achieve this by stretching a 3" diameter hose line up the stairs and attaching a pre-packaged bundle of 1-3/4 inch diameter attack line to it to engage the fire. If you are interested in joining our team please submit an application online at https://cyfairfd.org/join-our-team.html and clicking on the "volunteer" link.

This past week we had the honor and privilege to present one of our newest members Marlon Connley with his black shield. This signifies to our members on the fire ground that he is a fully released firefighter and has completed all mandatory training. This process is not easy and requires dedication and sacrifice. But the reward of being a Firefighter is more than worth it. Please join us in congratulating this outstanding young man in achieving his dream.

Nineteen years after September 11, 2001, we continue to honor the sacrifice made by our Fire, EMS, and Police brothers and sisters. We remember the personal and national losses on that day.

We pause to honor them this morning with a moment of silence. We honor the great sacrifice made by 343 firefighters, 8 EMS, and 61 police officers who perished on that fateful day.

May we always remember and never forget.

PATIENT REUNION
Cyclist, Nery Hernandez, thanks Cy-Fair FD crews for saving his life at a patient reunion on September 2, 2020, at Cy-Fair FD Station 6 in Houston. Hernandez suffered from sudden cardiac arrest while on a training ride with BNW Cycling Team in July 2020, in Houston.

On Thursday, July 23, 2020, Cy-Fair FD Medic 5, Paramedic Tiffany Fussell, and EMT Michael Gordy, were transporting a patient to a nearby hospital when the crew was flagged down for a report of an adult male cyclist who collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest.

Medic 5 crew discovered Hernandez had no pulse and wasn’t breathing so they immediately began CPR and called for additional resources. Crews successfully revived Hernandez on the side of Eldridge Parkway as additional resources arrived on-scene.

Hernandez was transported by Memorial Hermann Life Flight to Memorial Hermann - TMC where doctors performed life-saving surgery and installed an implanted cardioverter defibrillator. Hernandez was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome, a disorder that leads to an irregular rhythm in the ventricles, this resulted in him having sudden cardiac arrest due to this ventricular arrhythmia.

According to the American Heart Association, about 90 percent of people who experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest die. Hernandez, who has CPR and first-aid training, advocates for others to do the same. “I think everyone should have CPR training, it’s the knowledge that can save someone’s life, I strongly believe that,” Hernandez said.

“I’m really thankful, I thank God every day that I’m alive. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all of you,” Hernandez said, “I tell everyone I have an angel who saved my life, the Medic who performed CPR on me, now I know that my angel’s name is Tiffany.”
