What motivates you to write?
NEW Bachelor of Arts in English with a CREATIVE WRITING Concentration and our ongoing Creative Writing Minor UHD’s Department of English will offer--beginning this fall--a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Concentration in CREATIVE WRITING.

We are thrilled to announce this new degree! A degree plan will be posted to our Facebook site very soon. Stay tuned! The Department of English will continue to offer the Creative Writing Minor which includes 18 hours of course work selected from a sequence of courses in creative writing, literary translation, literary genres, a literary magazine production course, as well as selected writing and foreign language courses offered by the Department of Arts & Humanities. The minor is intended to foster a culture of writing across curricula in the humanities, arts, social sciences, natural sciences, and business in all degree granting colleges within the University.
Mission: To promote student interest in, and engagement with, the craft of creative writing (poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction).

Houston Poetry Lovers, HOUSTON’S FAVORITE POEMS is heading to the printer soon! The book will include 185 poems submitted by 233 Houstonians living in Greater Houston in more than 100 zip codes. We will be celebrating the anthology’s release this fall, but due to Hurricane Harvey, the original launch date has been postponed. 6th annual UHD outdoor halloween film festival October 27, at dusk, North Deck (between One Main and the Student Rec Center)
This year’s film, Blacula (dir. William Crain, 1927) will be introduced by students in Dr. Chuck Jackson’s ENG 3354, Intro to Film Studies course — mix with English faculty, students, and alumni beforehand at 6:30pm for pizza, conversation, and then settle in for this unique take on the Hollywood horror genre!
This event is free and open to the public, so come with family and friends!
October 20th is National Writing Day at UHD!

The Bayou Review, The WRC and Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society) are partnering to hold an all-day event where all students are welcomed to workshop their creative writing.
