Your Houston firefighters are braving not only CoVid-19, but the bitter cold on the night shift in El Paso. They have seen dozens of patients in the Mobile Medical Unit that was deployed by Gov. Abbott.

Ceiling collapse at HFD Fire Station 49. We are so relieved to report that there were miraculously no injuries.

Houston firefighters at Station 49 at 1212 Gessner are grateful no one was injured when the ceiling collapsed. A generation of neglect by city officials means there are challenges every day with the declining HFD fleet and facilities -- mold and sewage in stations and parking lots, broken-down fire apparatus and ambulances throughout the city, and no A/C in fire stations and apparatus. The administration of Mayor Sylvester Turner is years behind in HFD replacements and maintenance efforts. Concerned citizens should call Houston City Hall at 713.837.0311.

While we are able to breathe a sigh of relief here in Houston, our hearts are broken and go out to those in the path of Hurricane Laura, which is now a massive category 4 hurricane with 140 mph winds. This should make landfall around midnight tonight.

Please pray for all the first responders, city leaders, and civilians in this horrible storm’s path. It is going to be an incredibly long night and even longer next few weeks for everyone involved.

Engine 25 is located in Houston’s Third Ward. Glad to see they are back in their gorgeous regular unit. They are one of the busier Engine companies in HFD.

With HFD’s ageing fleet, we are very fortunate to have Gregory Miller as the Heavy Duty shop manager leading the mechanics down at our shop. He has a huge task keeping our ancient fire trucks running and does so very successfully.

Over 4 months in a 21 year old reserve engine we finally have our regular unit back home C-shift did a awesome job getting her ready to hit the streets of 3rd Ward again. We also have to give a shout out to Greg Miller at the heavy duty shop for busting his ass to get her back together.
