From all the crews here at HFD Fire Station 86,

Happy Thanksgiving!

11/24/2021

Thanksgiving Day consistently takes the top spot for home fire, injuries and death caused by cooking accidents. Leaving food unattended on the stove and improperly using cooking equipment are the reasons why. Make sure the cooking gets as much attention and your family and friends tomorrow.

Nearly every week, a first responder is killed while helping to clear a roadway incident. Help keep our Houston firefighters and paramedics safe by slowing down and moving over.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our HPD brothers and sisters and Officer Jeffrey’s family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the death of Senior Police Officer William "Bill" Jeffrey. He was fatally shot this morning while serving a felony warrant in Harris County. Officer Jeffrey, 54, joined HPD in December of 1990 and was assigned to the Major Offenders Division for almost 13 years. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later time.

Sgt. Michael Vance, 49, was also shot while serving the felony warrant. He remains in stable condition at a Houston hospital. Sgt. Vance joined HPD in June of 1998 and has been in the Major Offenders Division for the past 2 years. Due to the undercover nature of Sgt. Vance's assignment, HPD will not be releasing his department photo.

HFD response time has gotten worse every year since 2012

When a city grows and grows and grows and the fire department personnel, fire trucks, ambulances, equipment and fire station numbers do not increase at the same rate as the city…this happens.

Write to your local council member and the mayor and ask them why HFD may not be able to get to your loved one in time to help. Ask them why the city spent millions of tax payer dollars to have not 1, but 2 large scale assessments on this exact issue, to expand HFD resources, and the mayor just threw that information in the trash like it never happened.

MILLIONS of your tax dollars!

It’s a scary thought….but this is reality and it needs to be handled.

All of HFD’s issues can end with the resignation of the “CEO”, as he likes to call himself.

Stay safe. We will always be here for you. It just may take us a little longer to get there. It’s not from a lack of effort, we can promise you that!

Residents won’t find the information on the city’s publicly facing Houston Fire Department website.

It’s not worth it. Laugh it off and go home to your family and pets. Don’t give careless drivers the time of day.
