Last month, the Leonel J. Castillo Community Center was designated a Protected Landmark by the City Council in time for Hispanic Heritage Month. Formally known as Robert E. Lee Elementary, the Near Northside building was designed by Alfred C. Finn. In the 1970s, the site was converted into a huelga school—a “strike” school of 3,000-4,500 Mexican students led by Leonel J. Castillo who fought against HISD’s plans to segregate minority students from Whites. The school closed in 2002 and was bought by Harris County Precinct 2 in 2011. Today, the school still serves as a reminder of Castillo’s commitment to community and education.

WE OPPOSE Variance application – # 2020-0663, Whitney Place West partial replat no 1.

We request that the City of Houston DENY the application. Any development in our quiet, peaceful, close-knit community will add to the flooding caused by the current town home development. Streets would be torn up during construction and many other negative issues. Constructing a new street in our closed neighborhood does NOT ADD anything positive. Did I mention the street currently floods when it rains due to the current construction of the Park at Yale town homes? See images.
Houston Planning & Development Department, PLEASE update Current Agenda for this Thursday's Planning Commission meeting. PDF will not download. Site can't be reached error. By the way ...WE OPPOSE Variance application – # 2020-0663, Whitney Place West partial replat no 1.
Houston Planning & Development Department, the Pecandale Court Civic Club SEEKS indefinite deferment for Item 95 on the tomorrow’s Agenda, Variance Application # 2020-0663, Whitney Place West partial replat no 1,
I Object/Oppose Variance Application # 2020-0663, Item 95, RE: Whitney Place West partial replat no 1. This application did not take all of the repercussions into view of what would happen with the existing neighborhood it would be connecting with. Pecandale Court is that neighborhood, the same neighborhood I grew up in, the same neighborhood that still has residents living there from when I grew up there. The tranquility, safety, and extra traffic ramifications/concerns have not been adequately identified or researched by the variance applicant...let alone the flooding impact on this proposed project.

Pastor Victor Chatman

Pecandale Court Civic Club OPPOSE Agenda Item 95, Variance Application # 2020-0663, Whitney Place West partial replat no 1. , let our voices be heard!
I STRONGLY OBJECT to Variance Application # 2020-0663, Item 95 RE: Whitney Place West partial replat no 1
