UH SGA University of Houston Student Government Association (SGA) The Student Government Association exists to represent the interest of the students by serving as a liaison between the University and community.

Students are our top priority and we are always working on a variety of issues aimed at enhancing campus life and improving the student experience. From student services to food services; from academic issues to safety concerns, what ever your issue may be, SGA has a solution for you. Each student is represented in SGA by student senators according to their academic college. We encourage you all to meet with your Senators through our SGA town halls as well as through our bi-weekly SGA meetings. Both venues present an opportunity to express any concerns that you might have, and to learn what SGA is working on. In addition feel free to visit our offices to speak with us; our doors are always open. We are located in the Student Center North Building, Second Floor, Room 220.

This Juneteenth, we’d like to stand by the Black community as we commemorate their fight for freedom. We however, recognize that the war against prejudice, stigma, and racism is not over. We urge everyone to continue fighting for a just and equal society and support the Black community as we strive for a better world.

The first Pride March in New York City was held on June 28, 1970. The one year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. This uprising sparked a movement that has been inspiring in the fight against discrimination and a call for justice and equality.

We would like to recognize the struggle LGBTQ+ individuals have faced to obtain fundamental human rights and deeply value their contributions to society. This month, let’s honor the heroes of a painful past and work towards a brighter future.

05/30/2020

“As the student government of one of the most diverse universities in the nation, the UH SGA is pained by the murder of Houston native and Third Ward community member, George Floyd. I am saddened by the addition of his name to my mental list of unarmed brothers and sisters murdered by police across our nation. We have not yet healed from the losses of Michael Brown, Sandra Bland, Breonna Taylor and countless others. The addition of George Floyd sheds a light on a pandemic that has ravaged our nation since its creation -systemic racism. As UH Student Body President I am dedicated to the UH SGA’s representation of all students and consider silence on this issue an injustice to the student body. In honor of George Floyd this statement will serve as a call to action for all University of Houston students, faculty and administration to stand in solidarity with the Black members of our community against police brutality and systemic racism. I call on each and every one of you to use your voice and stand up against racism within yourselves, your families and your community. I call on all of you to demand change, hold your elected officials accountable and demand justice for Black lives. United we grieve George Floyd and united we will fight for change.”

-Jasmine Khademakbari, Student Body President

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
