Houston Marine Shoutout - Gunnery Sgt. Gaona
.
.
.
Today, is GySgt Gaona’s birthday! And for his birthday, we would like to share a piece of his legacy:
-GySgt. How long have you served in the Marine Corps and what do you think about it?
“I have been in the Marine Corps for 14 years and 2 months, and I absolutely love this organization.”

-That’s a long time. What’s been your biggest challenge that you had to overcome within those 14 years?
“Instead of sharing with you the most challenging, I want to share with you what the Marine Corps has done for me. It’s allowed me to face mental and physical challenges within and outside of my job field. I've been given the opportunity to learn from professional military practitioners of all ranks and from all branches. And from these experiences, I've learned how to face any challenge with confidence and military grace.”

-It sounds like no matter what you’d face, you always kept your head up and overcame those obstacles. So then, with all of your experience, what is the proudest moment in your Marine Corps career?
“I am most proud of the Marines I've had the pleasure of serving. And by that I mean that I'm most proud of the Marines that have been under my charge. As their leader - as a servant leader - it is my job to ensure they thrive in and out of the Marine Corps. After all, their success is our success.”

-Spoken like a true GySgt! Do you think recruiting stops you from being that type of leader?
“If anything, it has provided me an opportunity to lead, teach, and mentor the future of our country at an earlier stage of their life.”
Well said GySgt! We are proud to have you as one of our leaders! Keep doing your thing and we are excited to see what you will do for these young men and women of Houston. Semper Fidelis Gunny!

Marine Officer Candidate Class 234 Selection Board Selectees!
.
.
Congratulations to all six of these candidates for being selected on Marine Officer Candidates Class 234 Selection Board. Kearby Benak (Ground), Trey Williams (Reserves), Edgar Hernandez (Law), Brendan Reynolds (Ground), Stephanie Razo (Law), Martin Thomas (Law) have all punched their ticket to Marine Officer Candidates School.

Officer Candidates School (OCS) is where mind, body and character are screened, evaluated and honed to a razor-sharp point. Leadership is measured not by how well you follow procedure, but how you lead in conditions of uncertainty. Decisiveness, judgment, initiative and moral courage are tested in the midst of chaos, exhaustion, indecision and scrutiny.

These are the initial battles that must be won—and will only be won—by those who have the mettle to step forward, the resolve to continue through every adversity, and the presence to lead in front of the world’s most revered fighting force. Those who complete OCS have earned the privilege of wearing the Marine Officer uniform with pride.
