The Fund’s actuary has determined the COLA will be 1% so members age 55+ & those receiving general disability benefits will see their monthly amount increase by 1% beginning with the October 31, 2020 benefit payment.

Marco is falling apart with landfall expected in Louisiana today & should be downgraded to a depression before reaching Houston early Wednesday.
Laura is currently south of Cuba & is expected to intensify in the gulf, making landfall between SE Texas & SE Louisiana as a Cat 2 hurricane Wednesday night or early Thursday.
*Back-to-back storms hitting the same area without allowing time for storm surge to recede could be devastating*

Last week, a national pension coalition released its latest research, Unintended Consequences: How Scaling Back Public Pensions Puts Government Revenues at Risk 2020 Update.

The research shows that public pension funds like ours were net revenue generators for state and local governments in 2018, surpassing taxpayer contributions by $179 billion. Here you can view the infographic for the research!

We try to remind legislators of this when we speak with them. Pension benefits equals economic growth equals additional taxes for governmental entities.
