City of Pearland - Government This is the official page of the City of Pearland. In 2007, Forbes Magazine ranked Pearland as the 34th fastest growing suburb in the nation.

Pearland (pronounced "pear-land," like the fruit), is a city located along the Gulf Coast region in the US state of Texas within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area and is in the counties of Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Harris. It is therefore the fastest growing suburb in the Greater Houston area, and the 10th fastest growing in the state of Texas.

🗣Let's talk Short Term Rentals! Existing Airbnb and Vrbo listings are not automatically grandfathered into operation—simply being listed online isn’t enough. Only properties with an active City-issued STR permit, kept in good standing and renewed on time, are allowed to operate.

⚠️Here’s what every STR host needs to know:
-A valid permit is required before advertising or renting any property for less than 30 consecutive days.
-Quarterly Hotel Occupancy Taxes must be filed and paid.
-STRs are allowed only in Non-Residential and select Mixed-Use zoning districts.

"Both of them were very service-oriented. Don’t turn people away. Help everybody you can."

That’s the legacy Johnny Spires was born into. Raised by young parents-- a father often overseas on Navy duty and a mother raising three young kids and helping her community til her last day-- Johnny was living a life of service long before he wore a Pearland Police badge.

And now after 36 years of service to the City of Pearland, Pearland Police Chief Johnny Spires has retired.

But just before his retirement, Johnny joined us on the People of Pearland Podcast to reflect on his journey, sharing stories of his childhood, finding his home in Pearland and discovering his calling in a single criminal justice class and a starting wage of $10.50 an hour.

Join us as we celebrate the career, leadership, and lasting impact of Chief Johnny Spires — and thank him for 36 years of service to Pearland.
