’s Fort Bend clients received a “slam dunk”surprise last week. of the donated apparel, basketballs, hoops, and more to our holiday toy drive in addition to contributing toward our Amazon wish list. Over 160 children were impacted by this initiative.

It was a busy day in the 280th with four of our staff attorneys representing clients. In 2021, helped 2,314 survivors through the legal process.
More than 215 attendees joined us for last week’s CLE on domestic violence. We’re grateful for community partners who come together to educate on such an important cause.
October is one of our busiest months . We’re overwhelmed with the support we’ve received from contributions toward our fundraisers to volunteer applications to press coverage allowing us to share our mission and services with the community.

One of the most important services organizations can provide in helping to end domestic violence is to ensure that law practitioners understand what domestic violence is and areas of law it affects. Because domestic violence is a pattern of actions, legal professionals must be trained to scrutinize even seemingly benign activities. This program will equip lawyers practicing in all areas with the necessary tools to handle DV or to screen for domestic abuse and provide appropriate legal advice when domestic violence has been identified as an issue.
Supporting organizations for this CLE include AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse), the 280th Harris County District Court, the 387th Fort Bend County District Court, and the University of Houston Law Center.

Tuesday’s Honoring Texas Victims dinner raised nearly $500,000 for domestic abuse survivors. Thank you to event chairs Lisa & Eric Elder and Paula & Steve Winter for their efforts to make the evening a huge success and exceeding our goal.
’s Honoring Texas Victims dinner paid tribute to the 228 lives lost to domestic violence in 2020. While reports homicides decreased in 2021, Harris County saw an increase of 22%.
