Houston Health Department

In honor of #NationalPublicHealthWeek, we’re thanking the public health heroes in the Houston Health Department. Harlon Hill has worn many hats during the pandemic. He started as a contact tracer and watched the caseload swell after each surge. When HHD started vaccinating, he was asked to handle registrations at our vaccine sites. He says many people are nervous and confused but he makes sure each person receives the care they need. He strives to make the experience a positive one. @NPHW #PublicHealth #NPHW

In honor of #NationalPublicHealthWeek, we’re thanking the public health heroes in the Houston Health Department. When you call the COVID-19 call center, you’re in luck if Ms. Elsa Solis picks up. First, she listens. Then, she answers questions accurately and get needs met. She wants to make getting the vaccine convenient and hassle-free for everyone. @NPHW #PublicHealth #NPHW

In honor of National Public Health Week, we’re thanking the public health heroes in the Houston Health Department. Cydney Cameron is tasked with finding hundreds of local volunteers to support operations at mass vaccine clinics. She always wants volunteers to enjoy their experience, so they’ll choose to volunteer with the department again. Her focus on relationship-building ensures HHD has the people power to make our vaccine sites successful. @NPHW #PublicHealth #NPHW

🌮🌮🌮 I am thrilled to proclaim Wednesday, March 31, as #WorldTacoDay in the City of Houston! 🙌

I had the pleasure of stopping by Pico’s Restaurant to present a proclamation to Executive Chef Arnaldo Richards whose dream has been to have an annual city-wide holiday that commemorates Mexico’s 🇲🇽 signature dish.

I commend Chef Arnaldo for raising awareness about the cultural and culinary history of tacos.

THANK YOU to bp America for donating 1,001,000 surgical masks to the City of Houston! The masks will be distributed to City of Houston employees and the community and will help slow the spread of COVID-19.

In order to truly mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we must continue to wear masks a while longer, especially in public settings. I am asking all Houstonians, including those who are fully vaccinated, to do their part by continuing to wear a mask.

Masking up is important to me because in my Clinical Team Lead role with COVID-19 response, I work with an incredible group of investigators, contact tracers & epidemiologists who work diligently with increased work load demands. #MaskUp

I am proud to announce the appointment of Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner as the City of Houston's next Police Chief.

Executive Assistant Chief Finner is highly regarded in the Houston Police Department and has earned the trust and respect of our diverse community. He possesses a style of leadership best described as quiet with a strong demeanor.

I am confident Chief Finner is the right person for the job at this time. I know he will focus first on the needs of the Houston Police Department. I have asked him to stay focused on relational policing and bridging the gaps in trust and communication between Houstonians and our police department.

What is going on with the most recent Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment? My husband was not enrolled in the plan he chose or the plan he should have been defaulted to. I have spent hours on the phone over the last two weeks trying to get this corrected. Leaving voice mail messages and sending emails to the Benefits Office is fruitless. Several Aetna reps have told me that they have received communications from the COH indicating hundreds of the recent enrollments were botched - people were enrolled in the wrong plan or no plan at all.
