I don't know who needs to hear this but if you're dealing with something there is always someone that values you. If you need to talk, our door is always open.

If you need a reason, here it is. Your kids need you and they love you. Don't listen to that lying ass depression in your head. Your family is NOT better off!

Another successful USCGC Blackthorn Memorial Golf Tournament sponsored by the CPOA Lonestar Chapter in the books. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Special thanks to Cameron Steinmetz for setting everything up and Jason Jarrell and his team for cooking a delicious meal. We even helped out a turtle find it's way off the cart path.

I Love Texas

We share this nightly prayer in support of all of our Armed Forces - for those who are currently serving our country and for those who have bravely gone before them.

Heavenly Father, As we remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy every day, please hold our servicemen and women, including our K-9 soldiers, in your strong arms.

Cover them with your sheltering grace and your presence as they stand in the gap for our protection.

We also ask that you remember the families of our troops. We ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes, and we pray that your peace, provision, and strength will fill their lives.

Please watch over our Veterans who have so valiantly served our country. Bless them with wholeness and love. Shelter them, heal their wounds, comfort their hearts and grant them peace. We pray that our Armed Forces will be supplied with the strength to face each day and may they trust in the Lord’s mighty power to accomplish the tasks that are set before them.

We ask that you protect America from any more terrorist attacks and help us to grow strong again in our faith and our resolution that the United States of America is the greatest country in the world.

Lastly, we pray that our military brothers and sisters feel our love and support; may they gain strength in knowing how proud we are of them and that we are grateful for their service to our country. In Jesus Christ's name we pray.
Amen.

Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard

I am honored to announce Admiral Karl Schultz has selected the name for the Coast Guard’s 10th National Security Cutter.

This new cutter will carry the namesake of the FIRST Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard - Charles L. Calhoun.

MCPOCG #1 was selected for his courageous service in WWII, Vietnam and for establishing the MCPOCG role in 1969.

He was a barrier breaker for the enlisted workforce. He led significant changes to the senior enlisted leadership hierarchy while maintaining our history and heritage.

I couldn't think of a better way to honor his legacy.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston

Coast Guard members past and present, survivors, family members, and community members from around the country commemorated the 39th anniversary of the Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn tragedy in the cutter's homeport of Galveston, Texas.

On Jan. 28, 1980, the Blackthorn sank after colliding with the tanker Capricorn near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, Florida.

23 of the Blackthorn's 50 crewmembers perished in the worst peacetime disaster in Coast Guard history.

Today down at Sector Field Office Galveston, the Lone Star Chapter of the Chief Petty Officers Association (CPOA) is conducting the 39th annual memorial. The group of Chiefs in the Sector Houston area weren’t going to let the Government Shutdown stop the annual event as the event is conducted by the CPOA and not the Coast Guard itself.
The Lone Star Chapter (formerly Galveston Chapter CPOA) has conducted this event in Galveston yearly as the BLACKTHORN was Homeported in Galveston, TX and returning home when the accident occurred. Many of the family members have started to attend the Galveston memorial instead of traveling to Tampa, FL.

Script on picture:
“On the day 39 years ago, the Coast Guard lost a beautiful ship and more importantly 23 of our fellow Coasties. I ask that you take a moment to respect the 23 lost souls.”

Honoring The 100th Anniversary of The USCG CPO #commandchallengecoins
NEWS RELEASE For Immediate release: 01/15/2018 Coast Guard Warns Thousands of Retirees Will Not Be Paid During Government Shutdown As the Federal Government Shutdown enters its fourth week a group of veterans will too find itself victims and unaware how this shutdown will affect them: Coast Guard retirees. On 01Feb2018 checks that normally get distributed and direct deposited to over 50,000 Coast Guard veterans for their retirement and many more spouses that would normally receive their Survivors Death Benefits will not be getting paid, some of which live in the surrounding Houston area. The only way for the Coast Guard Active Duty, Reserves, Civilian, and retirees to get paid is if the Department of Homeland Security FY19 Appropriations Budget, a continuing resolution, or any alternative measure passes both chambers of Congress and is signed by President Trump. Why is the Department of Defense which includes the other four U.S. Branches of the Armed Forces and not the fifth branch of the U.S. Military? The Coast Guard is not part of the Department of Defense appropriation, instead falls under the Department of Homeland Security appropriation—one that has not yet been enacted into law for FY19. Federal Government retirees from other agencies that are included in the partial government shutdown, those agencies retirees will still receive their retirement pay because bills have been passed to protect them and their retirement pay from such government shutdowns. Coast Guard retirees will find out on 01Feb just how this government shutdown will affect them including this retired Boatswains Mate Chief having served 22 yrs with nearly 11 yrs of sea time . The shutdown, which began on December 22 was initially expected to affect all members of the Coast Guard beginning on the final paychecks of calendar year 2018 but saw a last-minute hail marry after a lot of time and effort in research and legal reviews were made. Today Coast Guard Active Duty saw $0.00 deposited into their mid-month paychecks and very soon a greater number of older veterans and fellow ‘Coasties’ that do not have the same access to resources and just as, if not more dependent on their pay, will be next in line and can have a devastating impact on their daily lives. They are unaware because the Coast Guard Pay and Personnel Command (PPC) is unable to handle it because the entire Retirement Assistance staff has been furloughed. In the Senate the Pay Our Coast Guard Act, introduced on January 4th, was assigned to the Senate Legislative Calendar; The Pay Our Coast Gard Parity Act of 2019 was introduced in the House and assigned to the Appropriations Committee and Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. It sits and awaits passage by legislation. ----------ENDS----------
