Fellow chiefs (and turncoats too) we just wanted to reach out and make sure everyone is making it through the COVID days. Let us know if you need help, or if you know of a coastie in need.
The Chefs Table is at it again!! She carried us through the shutdown and now she is putting chefs, servers, and bartenders on her back. She has started a hot meal delivery in order to employ these folks. Please consider placing an order at www.chefmarybass.com.

I Love Texas
We share this nightly prayer in support of all of our Armed Forces - for those who are currently serving our country and for those who have bravely gone before them.
Heavenly Father, As we remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy every day, please hold our servicemen and women, including our K-9 soldiers, in your strong arms.
Cover them with your sheltering grace and your presence as they stand in the gap for our protection.
We also ask that you remember the families of our troops. We ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes, and we pray that your peace, provision, and strength will fill their lives.
Please watch over our Veterans who have so valiantly served our country. Bless them with wholeness and love. Shelter them, heal their wounds, comfort their hearts and grant them peace. We pray that our Armed Forces will be supplied with the strength to face each day and may they trust in the Lord’s mighty power to accomplish the tasks that are set before them.
We ask that you protect America from any more terrorist attacks and help us to grow strong again in our faith and our resolution that the United States of America is the greatest country in the world.
Lastly, we pray that our military brothers and sisters feel our love and support; may they gain strength in knowing how proud we are of them and that we are grateful for their service to our country. In Jesus Christ's name we pray.
Amen.
Linda, Terry, Brian and Sheila

Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard
I am honored to announce Admiral Karl Schultz has selected the name for the Coast Guard’s 10th National Security Cutter.
This new cutter will carry the namesake of the FIRST Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard - Charles L. Calhoun.
MCPOCG #1 was selected for his courageous service in WWII, Vietnam and for establishing the MCPOCG role in 1969.
He was a barrier breaker for the enlisted workforce. He led significant changes to the senior enlisted leadership hierarchy while maintaining our history and heritage.
I couldn't think of a better way to honor his legacy.

Coast Guard members past and present, survivors, family members, and community members from around the country commemorated the 39th anniversary of the Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn tragedy in the cutter's homeport of Galveston, Texas.
On Jan. 28, 1980, the Blackthorn sank after colliding with the tanker Capricorn near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, Florida.
23 of the Blackthorn's 50 crewmembers perished in the worst peacetime disaster in Coast Guard history.

Today down at Sector Field Office Galveston, the Lone Star Chapter of the Chief Petty Officers Association (CPOA) is conducting the 39th annual memorial. The group of Chiefs in the Sector Houston area weren’t going to let the Government Shutdown stop the annual event as the event is conducted by the CPOA and not the Coast Guard itself.
The Lone Star Chapter (formerly Galveston Chapter CPOA) has conducted this event in Galveston yearly as the BLACKTHORN was Homeported in Galveston, TX and returning home when the accident occurred. Many of the family members have started to attend the Galveston memorial instead of traveling to Tampa, FL.
Script on picture:
“On the day 39 years ago, the Coast Guard lost a beautiful ship and more importantly 23 of our fellow Coasties. I ask that you take a moment to respect the 23 lost souls.”

Sharing another opportunity to donate. Onyx bday gifts to coastie kids!
I STILL NEED MORE DONATIONS TO HELP CG FAMILIES!!!
These are my lists of requests for help with birthday gifts. 7 pages front and back and I still haven’t gotten back to all who have messaged me asking for a gift for their child. Some families have multiple birthdays over the next month or two. I talked to one mom who has 4 children and all of their birthdays are next month!! These families are so thankful and appreciative to be able to give their child a little something special for their birthday—especially a CG themed gift!!
If you are able to donate a birthday gift for a Coastie kid, we would be so grateful!! I especially could use some donations for the Rosie the Response Boat plush for the younger ones!! Visit www.adventuresofonyx.com. We will cover the cost of shipping of the gift.
Also, we have raised over $850 for Coast Guard Mutual Assistance!!
Please share this so that even if you can not help at this time, maybe a friend of yours can!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

Looks like the retirees will not be getting their pay on the first if the shutdown continues. If you know retirees in the area that don’t do social media, give them a shout and make sure they know. See if they need help. There are avenues of support. They don’t need to be blindsided on pay day.
Info for our beloved CG retirees!! Please share this as much as possible. If you are or know of a retired CG member in the area who could use a hand, please let us know.
