Texas Lt. Gov. says that people getting huge energy bills 'gambled on a very, very low rate' - but suggests they won't have to pay the full amount

The Lt. Gov. fails to clarify two important details. One, the Texas freeze on prices during a disaster law does not apply to electric companies making electric companies a crony capitalist favorite. Second, the consumer is not fully informed of how variable rates are set. Variable rates that change daily are subject to abuse by the electric companies. However, the Lt. Governor is right to recommend that all consumers should enter into a contract. Those that choose to not enter into a contract should have a cap rate that is set by the state to discourage electric companies from entering into variable rate agreements with uninformed consumers. An uninformed customer should never be part of a free market. No one should profit from fraud by omission.

Texans on variable-rate energy deals were faced with enormous bills as the wholesale price of electricity spiked 10,000% during the storms.

2 in 5 Americans under 60 believe Social Security is a Ponzi scheme, survey finds

I am one of those Americans in his 50s who knows it it a ponzi scheme. The arguments that state that social security is not a ponzi scheme are weak:

1. Ponzi schemes are illegal and social security is legal, therefore social security is not a ponzi scheme. Taxation is legal and theft is illegal, therefore, taxation is not theft. Word games continue.

2. You don't know you are getting into a ponzi scheme until the scheme is discovery and with social security you know what you are getting into so social security is not a ponzi scheme. I know when I pay my taxes and I don't know that I have stolen from a thief, therefore, taxation is not theft. MORE word games.

3. Lastly, you don't pay into social security unless you work so you are not forced to participate into the program. YES.. .. I choose to not participate in social security and I choose to work off the books. The only argument that makes sense.

More than 2 in 5 Americans under 60 believe Social Security is a Ponzi scheme, according to a new survey, while 7 in 1o don’t expect much — if any payout — from the entitlement program when they retire.

Cashless Business Ban Goes Into Effect In New York City

As a consumer, I prefer cash if the price is discounted. However, businesses should not be forced to accept cash. Businesses that don't accept cash may offer lower prices so this rule does not necessarily help the consumer.

A new law banning businesses from denying customers who want to pay with dollars and coins just went into effect. CBS2's Andrea Grymes reports.

To all my fellow Comrades,

I bring good news, but with it I bring a warning.

The eviction moratorium for the entire US is confusing, but basically you state under oath that

1. you earn less than $99K per year and

2. can't pay your rent because of job and income loss

You still owe the rent money, but no landlord can evict you.

The moratorium lasts until December 31, 2020.

2020 is ending with landlords losing their right to evict renters who do not pay rent which may be a good thing on a temporary basis, but in the long run it will cause rent prices to go up and cause landlords to implement stricter requirements for renters to apply for rental units in the future such as credit check, rental history, more security deposit, insurance, etc. Also, the demand for single family homes will increase causing an increase in prices of homes. Finally, landlords will be encouraged to rent their units to persons who receive direct governmental rental assistance causing higher taxes and inflation for all and more and more income and wealth inequality. The next step may be rent control boards which establish all the detailed requirements for the landlord-tenant relationship and cause more and more housing units to become less and less available.
