📣 BUY SMART—CHECK THE MINIMUM QUANTITY FIRST!

A food may be creditable under CACFP, but that does not automatically mean one package or container will provide enough food for every child being served.

In the example shown, one full can provides 1.5 oz eq of meat/meat alternate—enough to meet the lunch or supper minimum for only one child age 3–5. Serving less than the required amount means the meal may not meet CACFP meal-pattern requirements.

Before purchasing or serving a product:

✅ Review the CN Label or Product Formulation Statement
✅ Confirm the creditable amount provided by each package
✅ Check the minimum serving requirement for each age group
✅ Calculate how many packages are needed for all children being served
✅ Keep supporting product documentation on file

⚠️ Important: When the full minimum quantity is not served, the affected meals may be disallowed and reimbursement may be lost.

A product listed in a menu system may be creditable, but it may not always be the most practical or cost-effective choice. Verify the quantity before you buy!

🚨 IMPORTANT CACFP UPDATE – MILK MENU SELECTIONS 🥛

Attention CACFP Providers!

To comply with the latest CACFP requirements, it is important that your My Simple Menu accurately reflects the type of milk you are serving.

✅ If you serve only one type of milk to children ages 2 years and older, simply select that milk on your menu as you normally would.

✅ If you serve different allowable unflavored fluid milks (such as fat-free (0%), 1%, 2%, whole milk when medically documented, lactose-free, or reduced-lactose milk), you must:

✔ Select "Unflavored Fluid Milk" under the Menu section for children 2 years and older.
✔ Choose the Food Item Used that best matches the milk you are serving that day.

Accurate menu documentation is an important CACFP recordkeeping requirement and helps ensure your meal service records match what is actually being served during sponsor reviews and TDA monitoring visits.

📋 Please review the attached graphic for step-by-step instructions.

If you have questions or need assistance updating your menus, please contact the PCCPA office. We are happy to help!

🚨 IMPORTANT CACFP UPDATE – Milk Menu Selection Changes 🥛

Attention CACFP Providers!

USDA has expanded the allowable unflavored fluid milk options for children 2 years of age and older. If your program serves anything other than just 1% milk, it is important that your My Simple Menu reflects what is actually being served.

✅ If you serve children ages 2 years and older, you may now serve allowable unflavored fluid milks such as:
• Fat-Free (0%) Milk
• Low-Fat (1%) Milk
• Whole Milk (when allowable)
• Lactose-Free Milk
• Reduced-Lactose Milk
• Other allowable unflavored fluid milk options

📋 What do you need to do?
Instead of selecting only “Lowfat Milk,” choose “Unflavored Fluid Milk” for the 2 years and older age group and then select the Food Item Used that best matches the milk you are actually serving.

✔️ Your menu should always match the milk served to children.
✔️ This helps ensure accurate documentation.
✔️ Proper menu documentation is required for CACFP compliance and may be reviewed during sponsor and TDA monitoring visits.

🍽️✨ Meal Substitution Reminder for Sites! ✨🍽️
Every child. Every meal. Every record matters! 💙

If a child receives a different meal component than the rest of the classroom, please remember to document the substitution in the system and on the Meal Production Record.

For example:
If most children receive chicken breast, but one child receives tofu, the record should show that 1 child received tofu.

✅ Scroll down on the Meal Production Record page
✅ Click the Medical/Special Dietary Substitution icon
✅ Select the child’s name
✅ Choose which component was substituted and what was served instead

Important reminder: A child’s name will only appear if they are marked as having a Special Diet in the Participant tab.

🏠 Home Food Reminder: Parents/Guardians may only bring one item from home, and that item must be CACFP compliant and within the same meal component group.

🌱 “Food Bridges the Brain” — Here’s Something You Probably Didn’t Know!

Did you know that what children eat can directly impact how well they learn, focus, and behave—within hours?

Research shows that balanced meals with the right nutrients can:
🧠 Improve memory and attention
⚡ Reduce hyperactivity and mood swings
📚 Boost early learning and problem-solving skills

Here’s a simple trick you can start using TODAY in your program:

👉 Pair foods to power the brain:

🍎 Fruit + 🥜 Protein (apple slices + sunflower butter)

🥕 Veggies + 🧀 Healthy fat (carrots + cheese)

🍞 Whole grains + 🍗 Protein (whole grain toast + turkey)

Why this works:
When you combine natural sugars (like fruit) with protein or healthy fats, it helps keep children’s energy stable—no crashes, no spikes, just steady learning power.

💬 Think about it: Ever seen kids get super hyper after a sugary snack… then crash? This is how you prevent that.

At PCCPA, we believe nutrition isn’t just about meeting requirements—it’s about building better learners and healthier futures.

🚨 MYTH BUSTED! 🚨

Some people think CACFP is only for low-income programs…

👀 Plot twist: It’s NOT!

🎉 FACT: ALL child care programs can participate!

That means if you run a child care home or center, you could be getting support to serve healthy meals & snacks for kids — and receive reimbursements while doing it.

🍎🥕🍞 Because feeding kids well shouldn’t mean doing it alone.

So if you’ve ever thought:
🤔 “Is CACFP even for me?”

The answer might surprise you.

🤯 Did You Know Child Care Programs Can Get Help Paying for Healthy Meals?

Yep it’s true! Through the CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program), participating child care homes and centers can receive reimbursements for serving nutritious meals and snacks to children.

A child can receive up to 3 reimbursable meal services per day, such as:

🥞 Breakfast
🍗 Lunch
🥕 Snack
🍲 Supper

(Any combination of 2 meals and 1 snack or 1 meal and 2 snacks.)

That means children get the healthy food they need to learn, grow, and play, while providers receive support for the meals they’re already serving. ❤️

👩‍🍳 Providers: If you’re serving meals in your child care program, you may qualify for CACFP reimbursements.

At PCCPA, we help child care homes and centers across the State of Texas with:
✔ CACFP enrollment
✔ Training & compliance support
✔ Nutrition guidance
✔ Ongoing program assistance

🛒 CACFP Myth vs. Fact!

❌ MYTH: CACFP buys the groceries for your daycare.

Wouldn’t that be nice? Imagine a CACFP grocery fairy dropping off milk, fruit, and veggies at your door every week. 🧚‍♀️🥕🥛

✅ FACT: CACFP reimburses you for meals and snacks that meet USDA meal pattern requirements.

That means you purchase the food, serve creditable meals, and then receive reimbursement for those meals when they meet CACFP guidelines.

📋 Pro Tip: Make sure the foods you purchase match what you record on your Meal Production Records.
If your menu says apples, milk, and whole grain bread… your receipts should show apples, milk, and whole grain bread too. 🍎🥛🍞

Good documentation helps protect your reimbursement and your program.
