🤗 Grandparents Help Build The Future 🌸

This National Grandparents Day, let's honor the grandparents whose encouragement, love, and advocacy make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families. This year, ChildBuilders is proud to feature our own team member, Janet Pozmantier, whose dedication to children extends from her family to her work every day.

💬 Janet shares her thoughts on being a grandmother:
“Parenting is incredibly rewarding and incredibly hard. Many parents and children are struggling. A little encouragement can make a big difference in developing a child’s confidence, resilience, and sense of safety. This National Encouragement Day, remind the children in your life that they are capable, valued, and never alone.

Try these 3 simple ways to encourage a child:

🌟 Say “I’m proud of how hard you worked,” rather than focusing only on the outcome
🌟 Encourage problem-solving by giving them space to try things on their own before helping

🍯 A New Year, A Better World 🍎

This weekend, ChildBuilders is reflecting on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. One of the tenets of Judaism is "tikkun olam," a Hebrew phrase meaning “repairing the world.” We can all play a part in making the world a better place. Through compassion, kindness, and caring for one another, we can help build safer, healthier communities where children and families can thrive.

😓 What if we looked at misbehavior a little differently?💡

Last week on Building Pathways to Healthy Minds, Priscilla welcomed pediatrician Dr. Kristen Cook to the podcast to talk about "Peaceful, Effective Parenting." In the conversation, Dr. Cook shares a powerful idea: misbehavior can be a sign of an overwhelmed brain. Children aren’t always throwing a tantrum to be defiant or talking back because they "hate you." Their brains are still developing, and they are learning how to understand their emotions and respond to the world around them.

Their behavior is their current emotional state and sometimes, we need to meet our children where they are! 🤝
