Energy Institute students recently represented the school at the Houston ISD Foundationâs annual State of the District luncheon, showcasing the kind of real-world innovation that defines the senior capstone experience.
In partnership with Moonflower Farms, a local hydroponics startup, student teams took on the challenge of improving a smart greenhouse system. Their work combined engineering, programming, and design thinking to develop a programmable camera gantry for monitoring plant growth, along with a streamlined touchscreen control panel that integrates environmental sensors into one cohesive system.
This project reflects what makes Energy unique: students are not just completing assignments, but collaborating with industry partners, designing for real clients, and solving authentic problems. The experience of working directly with a partner like Moonflower Farms provides a deeper understanding of how classroom skills translate into real-world applications.
