McDaniel Street Cemetery Named Historic Texas Cemetery

Descendants of early Houston-area families saw several years of hard work pay off when the Texas Historic Commission recognized the Crosstimbers-area’s McDaniel Street Cemetery as a Historic Texas Cemetery on October 8, 2020.

Established in the mid-1800s, the cemetery is located at the corner of McDaniel Street and Schuller Road. Descendants of the Westcott family, whose ancestors are buried at the cemetery, joined with local community members to form the nonprofit Westcott Cemetery Association (WCA) in 2018.

The McDaniel Street Cemetery was previously known as the Westcott Cemetery because the only signage on the property is the name “Westcott” over an arched entryway to a family plot.

In 2013, Sunbeam Curry Civic Club partnered with Houston Northeast Community Development Corporation and Greater Northside Management District to clean it up.

Descendants of the McDaniel Street Cemetery families are asked to contact the Westcott Cemetery Association at [email protected].

Support Houston Pub Crawl: Part Two
September 25 - October 4

A couple months ago, Saint Arnold Brewing Co. hosted Part One of their Support Houston Pub Crawl in Downtown. For Part Two, they're expanding to other areas of town. Here's how it works:

First, print our Support Houston Pub Crawl Card (http://www.saintarnold.com/support_houston_pub_crawl_part_two_card.pdf) or stop by the Beer Garden & Restaurant to pick one up. Between September 25 and October 4, hit at least six of the stops below and grab a bite to eat or a beer, to go or to stay. The staff will stamp their box while you're there.

Cedar Creek | Hughie's (18th) | Hughie's (N. Main)
D&T Drive Inn | Monkey's Tail | Preslee's | Harold's
Burger Joint (Heights) | Eight Row Flint | Cactus Cove | McIntyre's

Once your card is complete (feel free to hit all nine places if you want!), bring it to the Saint Arnold Beer Garden during public hours and they'll hook you up with an Art Car IPA-style Pub Crawl pint glass or a Saint Arnold HOU pint glass. You can redeem your card through Sunday, October 11. No purchases are necessary to participate in this crawl.
