A Grant Opportunity Designed to Help Eligible Texas
Small Businesses Expand into International Markets
and Increase Export Sales

The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), in cooperation with the Small
Business Administration (SBA), is now accepting applications for the 2026 State
Trade Expansion Program (STEP), a grant opportunity designed to help eligible
Texas small businesses expand into international markets and increase export
sales.

The STEP Program provides reimbursement funding to support export-related activities such as international trade shows, foreign trade missions, export training, market research, translation services, international marketing, e-commerce initiatives, and other approved export development efforts.

Deadline to Apply Online on TDA-GO:
Thursday, September 10th, 2026, before 5:00pm CT

Funding Parameters:
- Up to $20,000 for businesses pursuing
Market Expansion (ME) opportunities
- Up to $10,000 for businesses that
are New to Export (NTE)
- Company matching requirement

Key Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must:
- Be a Texas-based, for-profit small business
- Be organized and operating in the United States
- Export U.S.-origin products or services
(or products containing at least 51% U.S. content)
- Have been in business for at least one year
- Maintain an active SAM.gov registration and
possess a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)
- Be entering a new international market or
expanding into a new market segment

Apply Early:
Businesses must submit applications through TDA’s online grants management
system, TDA-GO. Applicants are encouraged to create a TDA-GO profile 48-72
hours before applying, and businesses that do not already have a UEI or
SAM.gov registration should allow additional time to complete those
requirements.

We encourage eligible Texas small businesses that are ready to grow their
international sales to take advantage of this opportunity.

The National Weather Service indicates a heat advisory is in place.

Please refer to the below information if you encounter anyone being adversely affected by the heat.

Per the Office of Emergency Management, the City of Houston is re-activating its Public Health Heat Emergency Plan, providing resources for people to take refuge.

Houston libraries and multi-service centers will function as cooling centers during normal business hours. The Central Library downtown is unavailable as a cooling center. Community centers operated by Houston Parks and Recreation Department will open to the public after the conclusion of daily programming for enrolled participants.

Anyone without air-conditioning can seek shelter at any of the following city buildings designated as cooling centers during the heat emergency.

Notice: Trail Closure behind Olivewood Cemetery
White Oak Bayou Greenway Closure

Beginning in late July, a section of the White Oak Bayou Greenway west of Studemont Street and south of I-10, behind Olivewood Cemetery, will have temporary closures to allow the Flood Control District to complete infrastructure repairs. The trail will remain open outside of active construction hours.

Construction is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.

We appreciate your patience as this important work is completed and encourage trail users to plan ahead using the detour map below.

Project Detour:
For trail users heading toward Downtown (southbound) from 11th Street/TC Jester, take the ramp up to the MKT Trail. Turn left (east) onto the MKT Trail and continue east 1.5 miles until you rejoin the White Oak Bayou Greenway near Bayou Greenways Park.

For trail users heading away from Downtown (northbound) and Stude Park on the White Oak Bayou Greenway Trail, turn right (northwest) onto the MKT Trail and continue west 1.5 miles until you rejoin the White Oak Bayou Greenway near the Moy Street Bridge (just past Shepherd and Durham).
