The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors—across the street, across the country, and across the world—in emergencies. Each year, in communities large and small, victims of roughly 70,000 disasters turn to neighbors familiar and new—the more than half a million volunteers and 35,000 employees of the Red Cross.

Nearly 900 California wildfire evacuees woke up in Red Cross shelters Monday morning, many of whom are struggling after losing everything. Thankfully, more than 350 of our dedicated disaster responders and volunteers are on the ground, ensuring no one has to navigate this heartbreaking time alone. Together with our partners, we’re providing food, shelter, emotional support, and other essential services to those in need.
The threat isn’t over — fire weather conditions remain critical. Now is the time for people to remain vigilant, be prepared to evacuate and follow instructions from local officials. We want people to know that our shelters are a safe place for everyone. No ID is required, and you don’t have to stay overnight to receive help.
As Californians cope with the trauma and massive destruction of the wildfires, we want them to know that they're not alone. To everyone who has supported our relief efforts — whether through donations or by signing up to become a volunteer — thank you. Your compassion is making a difference.

Unfortunately, home fires are the most common disaster. Protect yourself and your loved ones by testing the smoke alarms in your home once a month. If your smoke alarms are more than 10 years old, they need to be replaced.

Our Service to the Armed Forces team attended the VA Round Table in Corpus Christi at Del Mar College and were accompanied by our new partner organization, The Go Team Therapy Dogs, to introduce the PAWS (Animal Visitation Program) and brief them about the benefits of animal therapy. They brought lots of smiles and cuddles.

Your support of those affected by the California wildfires is truly invaluable. The most effective way to help our Red Cross disaster relief efforts is by making a financial donation. You can do this by texting ‘CAWILDFIRES’ to 90999 or visiting redcross.org/donate.
While we appreciate the thoughtfulness behind donating physical items like clothing, sorting and distributing these takes time and resources away from providing immediate assistance. Financial donations help us provide food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional support, health services, spiritual care and financial assistance, as well as supporting the vehicles, warehouses and people who make that help possible.
If you’d like to donate physical items, we encourage you to call 211 to connect with organizations that specialize in this work.
Thank you for standing with us to support those in need.

Dangerous snow and ice conditions have already caused the cancellation of hundreds of blood drives in 2025, resulting in several thousand blood and platelet donations going uncollected as the threat of more storms builds.

Where it is safe to do so, we encourage people to schedule a blood donation appointment by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
