This Katy ISD event is to provide students and families with information on post-secondary resources including agency connections, employment opportunities, recreation, leisure, and more.

The Handley Law Office will have a Resource Table and Attorney Boyd Handley, father of an adult daughter with Special Needs, will be available to answer questions concerning Special Needs Planning, Guardianship & Alternatives to Guardianship, Estate Planning, Special Needs Trusts and more. Attorney Handley will be be discussing his popular presentation, the comprehensive Special Needs Toolkit which includes Guardianship & Alternatives to Guardianship.

Feb 29th - SSLC long range planning meeting. Send your comments now! SSLCs serve only ~300 individuals each and have over ~1400 state employees each. Each resident costs the state over $200,000/year while over 150,000 Texans wait for support in the community. If your loved one experiences dual diagnosis or has severe behavioral issues AND they are on a 15 year waitlist - provide comments! If you are elderly, and your adult child is still waiting for services, provide comments!!

Members of the public must pre-register to provide oral comments virtually during the meeting by completing a Public Comment Registration form (https://texashhsmeetings.org/SSLCPlan_PCReg_Feb2024) no later than 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Please mark the correct box on the Public Comment Registration form and provide your name, either the organization you are representing or that you are speaking as a private citizen, and your direct phone number. If you have completed the Public Comment Registration form, you will receive an email the day before the meeting with instructions for providing virtual public comment. Public comment is limited to three minutes. Each speaker providing oral public comments virtually must ensure their face is visible and their voice audible to the other participants while they are speaking. Each speaker must state their name and for whom they are speaking (if anyone). If you pre-register to speak and wish to provide a handout before the meeting, please submit an electronic copy in accessible PDF format that will be distributed to the appropriate HHSC staff. Now through Monday, Feb 19th, Google is accepting applications for GRID (Google’s Rising Influencers with Disabilities), a first-of-its-kind, paid experiential learning program crafted for and with people with disabilities and tailored for people who want to grow their personal brand on social media through creative content development.
