Welcome to Holley Terrace Civic Association

Good evening All, I hope everyone is staying healthy these days. I was glad to see such positive feedback about the 4th of July flags. Unfortunately there were reports of them being collected by unsavory characters though. I just wanted to remind everyone that if you haven't paid you dues this year please make an effort to do so. You can visit the new HT website at: https://holleyterrace.com/ and pay via the PayPal link. Your dues go towards helping to do such nice things as putting out flags, paying for the maintenance of our esplanades and going towards our block party's just to name a few things. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to pay by check. Please pass the word along to your neighbors and encourage them to like our page for further announcements. We're currently at 68 likes, lets make it 75!

Good day to all, I'm sure we've all noticed the piles of heavy trash stacked in front of various houses and I wanted to inform the followers here that I have reached out to the city today to inquire about the delay. 311 has informed me that our heavy trash will be picked up sometime next week. I did press for an exact date but due to obvious circumstances they could not provide one. If heavy trash has not been picked up by weeks end I will follow up with the city and communicate what I find. Please pass the word along to fellow neighbors and if they do not follow this page please also encourage them to do so. Stay safe and cool!

Good evening all! Well its been an extremely crazy year and I hope y’all are doing well. For those of you looking to get out of the house the Binglewood Civic Association will be having Unicorn Gourmet Snow cone mobile at the Binglewood park between 5:30 pm and 8 pm tomorrow, Friday 6/19. I hope this will bring relief to the cabin fever but please stay home if you’re not feeling well and keep a 6 foot distance and obey any temporary signs pertaining to social distancing at the park.

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, on our neighborhood walks I have encountered a friendly feline on Thysen who doesn’t seem to have a home and could benefit from one. He’s neutered, very affectionate and seems to have allergies but may make for a good name. Please message me if he belongs to you or you’d like to give him a place to live.

Good evening all, I hope all is as well as it can be. During this time of social distancing and doing our best to slow or stop the spread its been great to see so many come together. Its also been even nicer to see so many walking the neighborhood to stretch the legs for a bit while maintaining a safe distance of course. We should also take this time to help out those closest to us as much as possible. For those who are able and willing be sure to check on your fellow neighbor to see if they need anything from the store on your next trip. Yes, stores are starting to limit how much of certain items can be bought at once but if your neighbors request won't break any limits it may be wise to help turn what may have been 2 separate trips to the store in to 1 single trip. Remember the goal is to keep as many people from moving about in crowded areas as much as possible and we can all do our part.

Good afternoon everyone, Centerpoint is currently knocking on doors and requesting access to back yards for their assessment of power line vegetation. Please grant them access in order for them perform the preventative maintenance necessary to keep power flowing thru the hurricane season!!

05/30/2019

Good morning All,

Centerpoint Energy has reached out and informed me that they are beginning their assessment of the vegetation around our power lines. Please bring in dogs and allow access to your back yards in order for this to be effective. If you have any questions please message me.

PLEASE PASS THE WORD ALONG TO OUR NEIGHBORS.

Good afternoon folks, these dogs were found wondering around our neighborhood. Does anyone know who they may belong to?

Good evening everyone, hurricane season is once again around the corner. I have reached out Centerpoint to address the massively over grown vegetation on our power lines. They will begin their assessment next week. We are in dire need of trimming around the power lines to avoid outages, damage, fire and/or electrocution in the event of a severe storm.

Good day everyone, I suffered a broken windshield due to the hail and just had it replaced at the shop below. They did an excellent job and beat Safelite by over $100. This is the 2nd car I’ve taken to them and they haven’t disappointed. Just in case if anyone is looking for a place.

05/14/2019

Folks, I’ve gotten information regarding the helicopter circling above. It seems that there is a suspect running through the neighborhood wanted obviously by police. He’s hopping fences into peoples back yards. If you haven’t done so already please help the police out by turning on all exterior lights/flood lights in the front and back of your house if you have them. Thank you

05/13/2019

Good morning Holley Terrace, just wanted to let everyone know that I've started seeing roofing signs go up. If you haven't already, it might be a good time to get your roof inspected for hail damage. Please note that it is also wise to do your research when selecting a roofing company since fly by nights usually come about right after a storm that we had just last week.

If anyone has had good experiences with certain roofing companies please feel free to share their information!

Good afternoon all, I just wanted to get the word out that I had some brick and mortar repaired at the house by the company below. They did an excellent job and even matched the new mortar to the old so the repairs don’t stand out. They’re located near us within the same zip code so feel free to give them a call and get a quote.

Focus on Lawn & Property Care

We all want to live in an attractive, well-maintained neighborhood, don’t we? But it takes an effort on everyone’s part to keep our homes and lawns well-kept and cared for. It’s a matter of civic pride and good stewardship—even if we’re renting!

Keeping up regular cleanliness and order, as well as regular maintenance, is known to positively lower crime and violence rates. Studies and police departments show that property maintenance can reduce the likelihood of criminal activity.

As homes age, routine maintenance plays a vital role in maintaining property values. The failure to maintain property directly impacts property values of adjacent property and, in the worst case, can provide an area that attracts criminal activities. To protect our neighborhood from deterioration, our deed restrictions establish a few sensible property maintenance standards.

Key Deed Restrictions Relating to Maintenance

Weeds and Trash: Residents are to keep the yard mowed and edged, all weeds cut and will not permit the accumulation of trash on any lot. Trash cans, trash bags and/or other debris are to be stored in the back yard or in a garage, but in any case are to not be stored in front of the house or garage. Dead trees are to be removed in a reasonable time frame.

Maintenance and Painting: Homeowners are to maintain their homes in a reasonable state of repair and will paint the exterior when necessary. Let’s all do our share to keep the neighborhood looking sharp!

Some Reminders about Construction & Remodeling

No lot are to be further subdivided or reduced in size. Lots in Holley Terrace are to have an area of not less than 7,500 square feet and a width of less than 65 feet at the front building setback line. In general, all structures must be set back 25 feet from the front street line. No carports, porte-coheres or similar structures are allowed. Fences are prohibited closer to a street than the building setback lines and may be located on side or rear setbacks only.

More than one house, one garage and two accessory structures on a lot are prohibited. No prefabricated home, mobile home, house trailer or any similar structures are allowed to be placed on any lot. No structures are to be erected, placed, or altered on any lot until reviewed for conformance with these Restrictions and approved in writing by the Development Standards Committee (“DSC"). Please see the bylaws for more information on the authorization procedure. This is important for the cohesion of the neighborhood and to maintain its character.

In Memory of Pat McLaughlin

In Memory of Pat McLaughlin

Pat McLaughlin, our good neighbor and the former President of our civic association, passed away at the age of 77 on the 14th of March. She survived by a brother and two sisters. Pat was sustained and ministered to by our own Catherine Guillory from the beginning of Pat’s decline through to the very end. May God have grant them all his grace.

Pat was born in Wyoming, worked ten years as a clerk for the military where she certainly must have learned her concern for organization and seeing things with a critical and discerning eye. Pat was also an art teacher at Reagan High School but she was also an active and prolific artist.

On Saturday March 28, 2015 from 2 to 4 pm in the OutBack (our last meeting location) at St. Jerome's a few of Pats friends will gather to remember her. You are invited to stop by for a chat, a soft drink and a good word in her memory. Pat's brother and sister had to return to back to their homes but they thank everyone for the warm well wishes.
