On this date in 1990: teenage AIDS activist Ryan White dies of AIDS-related illness at age 18. White, who was ostracized from his school and his community for having AIDS, became a poster child for the fight against AIDS and its related stigma. His legacy lives on today through The Ryan White CARE Act, passed shortly after his death, which is the largest federally funded program specifically for people living with HIV/AIDS.
