Have You Seen It? Want To Know More About It?

Nassau Bay's new art monument is scheduled to be installed on NASA 1 this year, across from the Hilton NASA Clear Lake. The conceptual idea came about in 2016, and the City is happy to announce the monument will be lit in June of this year.

The monument was designed and constructed to honor the relationship between NASA Johnson Space Center and the City of Nassau Bay. The City's origin story is centered around developing a community for the professionals that were moving across the country to work at NASA. The monument's light will shine into the sky as a celebratory beacon for many more years of space exploration.

This is a joint project with NASA's Johnson Space Center, TxDOT, Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia, Texas Representative Dennis Paul, SWA Group, and the City of Nassau Bay.

This art monument was planned and funded with revenue from the hotel occupancy tax fund since 2016. This dedicated revenue can only be used to promote tourism and the arts within the City.

Stay tuned for the official unveiling of the art monument name at the groundbreaking ceremony!

β€œEarth is a spaceship for all of us. We’re all astronauts on board that same ship. We need to take care of it.”

One of our NASA Astronauts Chris Cassidy reflects on what the 50th Earth Day means to him while he is on board the International Space Station. Experience #EarthDayAtHome:

After landing in Kazakhstan on April 17, NASA Astronaut Andrew Morgan and Jessica Meir began their next journey... to their homes in Houston! The astronauts reunited with their family and friends after 9 months in space for Drew, and 6 months in space for Jessica.

50 years ago, lead flight director Gene Kranz and his team used the Apollo Mission Control Center to communicate to the Apollo 13 crew, troubleshoot problems that arose on the spot and ultimately decide how to bring the astronauts home safely.

In honor of the great successes of the Apollo program, historians joined together to restore the Mission Operations Control Room in the Christopher C. Kraft, Jr. Mission Control Center. From the coffee mugs to the center consoles, check out the project that preserved history:

200,000 miles from Earth. An explosion. Out-of-the-box thinking and even some duct tape. Hear from astronauts Jim Lovell and Fred Haise of #Apollo13 on the legacy of NASA’s β€œsuccessful failure” on this week’s episode of β€œHouston, We Have a Podcast.”

Do you know how you’re celebrating Earth Day this year? 🌎

It’s the 50th anniversary, and we’ve got big plans in store, starting with a countdown. For the next 50 days, NASA Earth will bring you new and historic views of our home planet from space, including stories about big environmental challenges we’ve faced and how we’ve worked to solve them:

The International Space Station supports long-duration spaceflights and the research to study the effects of extended periods of weightlessness on humans. As of March 2020, the station has hosted 170 long-duration crew member flights ranging from 48 to 340 days. Recent missions of nearly one-year length provide additional critical information to support future human space exploration. #SpaceStation20th
